seems like even with the ability for turncoats like to live out in the open today, phil might be one of the few still in danger. people often talk about the mob not risking the heat by going after witnesses after the damage is already done, but people seem to forget how much damage he did. even though the bull quickly outdid him as a rat, the case can be made that phil caused more damage, which i believe he did. with some of the old time scarfo guys getting out soon, and as long as scarfo sr stil has a breath left in him, i believe that given the chance, somebody would snuff him out in a second, regardless of consequences, not that i think they will ever get the shot though.

I agree Andrew. He doesn't even deserve the credit for a book about LCN anymore. It is stupid, He has told law enforcement everything that he knew and now he is writing a book about his past, well didn't he do an interview before? isn't that enough for him. He is now getting all the credit, getting money from his history and says he wants nothing to do with crime anymore? Idiot. Broke a rule and traded his friends.

Yes,but for me Leonetti is like the old time mobsters - calm, intelligent, charming, you would never say he is a mafioso, but at the same time a killer. Very very dangerous combination. I like him because is not cocky like many of the other ones, but he knew Meyer Lansky and other figures from the old days, probably that's the reason, he learned from them. Always reminded me of Bugsy Siegel - running casino, charming, killer...

No way Phil knew Meyer Lansky, Lansky rarely visited Philly and that was only for Booze in the 1920s. Lansky stayed in New York while Phil worked mainly in Philly with Nicky Scarfo! @ Andrew - I have no problem with organized killing people that was killed in business, Cosa Nostra killings. People who have nothing to do with, well I disagree with all that.

Leonetti said Scarfo used to take him down to florida back in the 1970's. Most likely the early to mid 1970's if it's really true. And thats when they met up with Lansky according to Leonetti.

From http://themafiaprince.com/2012/11/05/forward/

"Now one of the most important Mafia informants in history, Leonetti never said much during those meetings down in Miami. He was just happy to be there. He looked at Lansky the way others would look at DiMaggio, Caruso or Hemingway. One of a kind. A man who defined the world in which he operated.

Lansky was there at the beginning, when it all started, when Cosa Nostra was formed. Leonetti, who rode to power with his uncle and who for a time controlled the mob’s rackets in Philadelphia and Atlantic City, is a man who helped bring it all to an end.

“This was back in the 1970s,” Leonetti said several years ago as he recounted those trips to Florida. “Any time we went, my uncle would call and we’d go over and see Meyer. He’d be sitting there in the restaurant. Him, Nig Rosen. Mickey Weissberg. They used to get together there every day. It was, like, Meyer’s hangout. They’d go there and play cards. Meyer liked us. He liked my uncle. So we’d sit around and he’d tell stories about the old days, about Benny and Charlie and how it used to be.”

Benny was Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegel. Charlie was Charles “Lucky” Luciano. Siegel, of course, brought the mob to Las Vegas. He built the

Flamingo Hotel Casino in 1947 and that turned the desert into a money machine for the mob. Then he forgot who his partners were. And so he was killed.

Years later, Lansky still talked about it.

“Meyer told us about how upset he was when Benny got killed,” Leonetti said. “He really loved Benny. But he said Benny was robbing them guys and he wouldn’t lilsten. He said Benny never liked to listen to the Italians. And that he thought the casino was his, which it wasn’t. It was theirs. Benny would only listen to Meyer and Meyer said he kept him under control the best he could, but when they decided to whack him, there was nothing he could do. It broke his heart when they killed him, but he couldn’t stop it. It was business.

“Then he looked at my uncle and he said, ‘Benny was a stone killer, Nick. But you know, there’s a lot of killers [in the Mafia].’ My uncle just nodded.”"

Leonetti was a cold blooded killer just like his Uncle Nicky. He was a ruthless guy and he loved the life but as soon as he knew he was fucked he flipped. He'll tell you he did he for his kid or because his cousin Mark Scarfo tried to kill himself but lets be honest here, the guy did not want to sit in prison for 45 years so he ratted on everyone he could to get himself a deal and he did get the deal. I'm not sure but i think he served maybe 5 years but it might of been a little more and then he was released and relocated. I have no idea on how he's made a living after being released but i doubt he's making what he used to when he worked for his uncle.

I find interesting the comments he made about Merlino, calling him nothing but a punk and how he better watch out for the Scarfo guys getting released. He said to watch for Narducci and Grande and called them "real gangsters".

Here's what Leonetti said.

"Never a big fan of Joseph “Skinny Joey” Merlino, he writes that the erstwhile mob boss, now cooling his heels in Florida, is better off in the Sunshine State. He describes Merlino as a “punk” and a “thief.” And he warns that guys like Phil Narducci and Joe Grande who were jailed with Scarfo in 1987 and who have recently been released, also have less than a favorable impression of Merlino, a young, cocky wannabe gangster when they were on the streets.

“These guys are real gangsters,” Leonetti says of his former underworld contemporaries."

And here's the article he said it in. http://www.jerseymanmagazine.com/mobscene-leonetti.php

Nicky Scarfo visited Lansky quite often in Florida with his nephew Leonetti. Lansky was living there so you're wrong.

I almost finished Mafia prince and it's pretty good. Leonetti reveals alot of details he didn't in his interviews. Yep, he calls Joey Marlino a punk and a no good kid. Read Blood & honor a couple of years ago and I think Caramandi said Leonetti actually wanted to kill Salvie too. In Mafia Prince he's claiming he loved salvie and that that killing was the start of the downward spiral of the Philly LCN.

I hate this guy so much lol

as if leonetti can call merlino a punk. leonetti was out of the game by his 30s. merlino's been there up until now in his 50's. and how can he call him a kid theres less than 8 yrs between them. merlino is a gangster thru and thru. no chance of him ratting. and he was a boss. he wont care about some old timeers like grande and narducci. he still carries a lot of weight doubt they do. leonetti u cheeky punk, shouldnt even have an opinion on those guys he is dirt on their shoes. leonetti come up on scarfo's back. merlino warred to be there.

No offence but i find it hilarious how you call these guys spineless rats from your computer in England lol when you've never had to face a decision like theirs yourself.

Leonetti probably acted as IF he wanted to kill Salvie. He couldn't risk anything else around Scarfo. Scarfo would kill him if Leonetti went around telling people like Caramandi that he really didn't want to kill Salvie.

That said, who knows what he really wanted...

Merlino was a thug, not Cosa Nostra. Ralph Natale wasn't even made and he was the boss at one point with Merlino's approval! Merlino would've never come up if it wasn't for how the Scarfo regime ended because both Scarfo and Leonetti hated that kid, and would've clipped him eventually.

In Blood&Honor Phil was supposedly really messed up over the contract on Salvie but after so many failed attempts he just wanted to get it over with

Personally, I think he didn't want to hit Salvie. He said so himself in Mafia Prince and as you said, in Blood & Honor. Nobody wanted to disagree with Scarfo. Like Caramandi said, if he had the opportunity to warn Salvie, he'd go out guns blazing after Scarfo, but I think both Joe Punge and Leonetti knew that Scarfo would prevail in the end as whacking a boss was a death sentence and Scarfo had the backing of New York. I think Salvie was done either way, but it was a blow for them. What a capo he was.
