Found this random article. It has no merit whatsoever (though I'm surprised people from New York and Jersey were among the list). But has this sort of thing happened before in the past when Clinton or GW got reelected? People being idiots threatening to leave?

Some people just don't know how to accept the will of the people and the results of an election.

Hey I wasn't happy with the results, but I accept the fact that President Obama is the leader of our country and to try and secede is pretty moronic (and unlikely). What's done is done. For the good of the USA, people need to stop being idiots and realize infighting doesn't solve the many problems we have to deal with.

It's funny Olivant, I just saw an article on NBC news about a petition from Texas that has over 34,000 signatures asking to leave the Union. Under Federal guidelines if a petition has over 25,000 signatures on it within 30 days the government has to respond.

Yeah, it started after Abraham Lincoln was elected. I don't know if anything came of it, though.

The government is under no obligation to respond to such a petition, which is as silly as it is meaningless. A state can not secede, based on legislative fiat or petition. We are not a League or Confederation of States, but a Union. The whole thing is inconsequential.

It's funny how everyone reacts to the result of the election. At least liberals were saying them move to France. Republicans want to secede. Look at Texas, Obama got 41% in that red state. If anything, that state is just as divided as the whole country. Bunch of morons.

i'm not pro succesion, nor do i dislike iran , as i feel alot of people there are just stuck in a bad situation. what i do have a problem with is to have someone from a country with 10X the problems of america to criticize us when they have a seemingly never ending train of human rights violations going on almost daily.

Just a personal note: afsaneh is one of the fairest and brightest persons I know. Unless you include yourself as a secessionist (and you say you don't) afsaneh's remark about morons was not pointed at you, but rather at those who want to secede. That is a BIG difference.

Thanks SC, you are too kind. I'm a big gal and it's quite all right. His problem seems to be that since I come from a country with human rights problem, I've no right to pass any judgement on anyone in the US. Not sure what sort of reason could result in such a view, but it sure doesn't make any sense to me, and I just ignore that.

i like AF and his posts are good and its not some personal attack here, its the internet after all, a disagreement, nothing more. i just don't like ANYBODY who does't live here to dump on anybody who does(no matter how stupid the choices they make make may seem, that used to be called patriotism, maybe not anymore ) when they come from a place that KILLS people for making so called "bad choices". with that said, everyone has a right to thier own opinion! to be fair, i'm not accusing AF of supporting said policies, but it remains a hard pill to swallow regardless. i hope everyone has a great night

FF - I don't know why afsaneh's location has any effect on how you respond to her. If I said that the secessionists are morons (and I believe they are morons) would you have a problem with that?

I also believe that Iran has more than its share of human rights issues but throwing that up here now, in response to afsaneh's remarks about secessionists is just plain pointless.
