No, your first assertion was correct. Nick The Pig calls Frank making believe that he is one of Frank's hitmen, telling Frank that they f**ked up! Frank thinking it really was his Hitman could NOT respond in front of Tony because Frank had denied that he tried the hit on Tony. So therfore, Frank had to make believe that he was talking about something totally different, unaware that Tony set it up that way. With Tony knowing that when Nick called posing as a hitman, if Frank's reply was to look as though he were talking to someone else about something else, it would be a confirmation to Tony that Frank was behind the hit!
