I was reading in the paper the other day that not only are they making a remake of "Carlitos Way" but that they are thinking about making a remake of "Scareface". WOW. What are some thoughts on this and who could they get to play Tony? I do not think that they will be able to pull it off. There is only one Scarface.....

I woke up this morning with nothing to do and went to bed with only half of it done.

It really goes to show you how horrible the writing has become in hollywood. Not only are they continually making remakes of the old classics, but now they are making re-makes of movies that are not really that old! There is no more originality left in hollywood. Think about it; when was the last time that you could sincerely say "Wow that movie was really great! It's destined to be come a classic someday!"
When was the last time that a really great, classic movie was released to the theater?
Heck, they even have stooped so low as to re-make Anaconda, probably one of the worst movies ever made! eek Shame that they already want to make re-makes of Scrface and Carlito's Way! rolleyes

Don Cardi cool

Don Cardi cool

DC- maybe another romantic comedy is what we need rolleyes

or another movie where a person is going down the wrong road in life and something happens AND THE PERSON HAS TO "CHOOSE" what to do rolleyes

If I can predict the outcome of a movie within the first 10 minutes of the movie, then I just wasted my money frown

DC-To me I could say that about Kill Bill (about it being a classic someday, hopefully, but it's not really "original" in the sense).

As for the remake of Scarface, TERRIBLE idea. They're just ruining our classics now. I'm just wondering until I hear the word that Godfather, Raging Bull or Goodfellas is gonna be re-released mad

Thing is, both versions of SCARFACE are great and unique in their own individual selves.

Really, we gotta credit Sidney Lumet(before leaving the SCARFACE remake project when he didn't like Oliver Stone's script. At least Lumet is getting an Oscar finally this year) for coming up with the premise of the remake to not just mimic Howard Hawkes' original involving prohibition in 1920/30's Chicago with Italian immigrants but instead go in a new path....going from Italian to Cuban immigrants of 1980....changing the "gold" forbidden narcotic from alcohol to cocaine...but still keeping the same basic story.

Thing is, WHAT could a 3rd version of SCARFACE be done with without seeming to be a similar copycat of Brian DePalma's remake? Then again, if someone in Hollywood with a creative intellect(which is like looking for a virgin in Washington D.C.) can come up with an intriging new take on the same basic story that makes up both SCARFACE movies....it might work.

Until then, I piss on it!

Well, with such a strong hip hop audience fot scarface, i would think that it would be very "gangsta". Maybe like instead of a guy coming from italy or cuba, a guy coming from the ghetto. if so, it WILL suck. But then again, I am not a huge fan of the first remake anyway.

I don't apologize--that's my life--but I thought that, that when it was your time, that you would be the one to hold the string. Senator Corleone; Governor Corleone."

Strong words. I disagree.

I really think that Kill Bill is original! I loved that movie, it's the only new movie that has really kept my attention!

Re-makes are just a bad idea. I've never seen a remake that I felt was as good as the original. A re-make of Scarface would really suck.

I don't know if this is true, but a friend of mine living in France read this in a local newspaper over there, about some French producer remaking SCARFACE itself, or actually an unofficial remake(like the recent good french flick THE NEST was a not-so-secret rehash of John Carpenter's ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13, which ironically was a remake of RIO BRAVO) of the same story that both Howard Hawkes and Brian DePalma have helmed.

Anyway, this "remake" would be about a Muslim immigrant chump(who of course has a "scar" on his face wink ) who rises up to the top of crime in France, and then of course his disgraceful downfall.

Then again, its not a bad idea. France is currently has the largest population of "Islamic" immigrants in Western Europe(which has led to problems in the civic system over in the country between the "natives" and immigrants that is comparable to the Italian immigration flood of a century ago and the Cuban influx since Castro's take-over of Cube in 1959). Of course HOW can you tell the same story again really before we people just don't care?

Of course, this could be a false rumor(European tabloids are infamous for their not-so-truthful reporting).
