http://www.oggi.it/focus/cronaca/2012/09...-da-provenzano/

I wanted to post this interview (it's actually an excerpt of the entire interview I believe), but I don't think there is an English version of it available, so I did my best in translating it. Hope it came out ok. If i come across the English version, I'll post it.
------------------------------------------------------------------
In an exclusive interview, the 3rd son of Toto' Riina speaks for the first time, after serving his sentence for mafia association. He now lives and works in Padua.

NOT PROVENZANO WHO BETRAYED MY FATHER: When Giuseppe Riina was asked about the rumors that it was Provenzano who betrayed his father and who was the one responsible for his father's arrest, Giuseppe responded, "It was not Provenzano, I don't know who it was, but they were friends and my father does not believe Provenzano betrayed him and neither do I."

ON BORSELLINO: It was said that Toto' Riina stated that Borsellino was not killed by the mafia, but by the state of Italy. Giuseppe Riina responds, "If my father said that, then he has his reasons, and after 20 years, we are still waiting for the truth."
(picture/video of Toto' Riina interview making this claim)

IL PENTIMENTO DI PROVENZANO (The possibility of Provenzano's repentance): Regarding the rumors about the alleged suicide attempt of Provenzano and of his possible repentance: Giuseppe Riina says, "It's possible about Provenzano trying to kill himself. He's sick, he's old, he's very tired of being under the article 41-bis without receiving proper health care, but I do not believe he would ever be pentiti.

"I DO NOT SEE MY FATHER FOR 10 YEARS": Giuseppe Riina speaks about his desire to see his father, who is also serving under Italy's article 41-bis. "I have not seen my father for 10 years and I have not been able to touch him for 20 years.I know he's doing bad. He's tired, he's sick, he has Parkinson's disease and a bad heart. I want to hug him, but I know I'll only get to do so when he's dead."

"LOVE SONGS OF CLAUDIO VILLA": Giuseppe says he remembers his father this way: "He loves music, songs by Claudio Villa. He taught me to respect others ... this is not the man described by news reports, but a loving father, full of care and principles. My father liked to cook, take care of his garden and his plants. In all the houses that we have had there has always been a garden and a chicken coop: my father spent hours between chickens and rabbits. He loved animals. There was always dogs and cats in our house."

WRITING A BOOK: So Giuseppe Riina announces the decision to write a book: "I was thought of like I had the plague, banished from Corleone, and they also wanted to kick me out of Padua. They tried to ruin the name of even those people who helped me. With this book I have tried to show what is the truth, to disclose details of my life. I'm not a boss or a bully or some arrogant the way they have painted me to be. I am a man who wants to regain his life. Even though my name is Riina. "

How come Giuseppe Riina can't see his father? Aren't guys serving time under article 41-bis allowed to see family? Are they allowed to have any visitation at all?

people who were sentenced for mafia association cant visit their relatives when they also were sentenced for mafia stuff? Does the article say what his crime was? if remember correctly here in germany lives a son of provenzano, who works as a teacher and who visited him during his time on the run.but he wasnt sentenced for anything.
How does someone like him can talk like this openly wiht the press and write a book?doesnt he need "permission"?

Being under article 41, you are allowed only one hour per month for a visitor and that has to be behind glass. Since Giuseppe has been convicted in the past of mafia type crimes, he will never get a pass to visit. The whole point of being in that regime of 41 bis is to not be able to conduct any mafia business from jail.

At visitation, it's always supervised and always behind a glass partition, so the prisoner will never get to touch an outsider for the rest of his life.

Good question about the book and needing permission. I don't understand this myself.

I have also asked repeatedly about the other Provenzano son. He stated in that video interview he did, that in the past he had visited his father, while his father was on the run. I don't understand how that is not a crime. I am sure that any contact with a fugitive is a crime. Nobody ever answered me.

people with previous criminal records for mafia association can't visit other people sentenced for the same crime
giuseppe salvo riina was sentenced for that crime in the past
if you have a fugitive in your immediate family is not a crime visit him
concerning the book i dont know, but it looks like he was stepped down or something similar
the new boss of corleone rosario lo bue seemed tell it in the wiretaps

Wait Whoa...so what you're saying is if someone in your immediate family is a fugitive, it's ok, and not a crime, that you visit them WHILE they are on the run? Is that what you're saying?

That's the answer I was waiting for. Now my next question is: who is considered immediate family? Wife and children only, I assume?

of course in Italy they wont arrest the woman cuz theres a hell lot of mafiosi so if they start arresting the women that they are married with(cuz they know some stuff or visit them in this case),it would be chaotic(although its not such a bad idea cuz all of the gangsterism is goin on lately done by women bosses) tongue

^^^ Plus the italian govt is smart. The wives are kept out free and used as bait. If there are other mafia members in the family, which there always are, they always come home to their mothers, they always gather around their mother's houses and for the ones that are fugitives, where there's the mother... there's the son(s).

The wives and mothers I pretty much knew about, but it's the contact with children and maybe even contact with other family members that I was questioning. I thought contact with a fugitive by relatives was considered mafia affiliation.

There are some families(not only Italian) that are involved in crime all together in many countries, meaning wives, sons and daughters,so to my opinion its gotta be a crime(visiting, bringin food, supplies)
