First off, anyone seen the original 1932 SCARFACE from legendary filmmaker Howard Hawkes that of course inspired the DePalma-directed remake that we all love and dig?

I finally saw it the other day...and I quite liked it. Easily one of the better, if not the best, of the gangster movies of the 1930's. The same film that was out of circulation print due to producer Howard Hughes from 1933 to 1978 because of the fuss over the violence and immoral behavior in the original(sound familiar?)

I dig both films equally, but forced to choose, I pick TONY MONTANA's movie for sure.

But really, if you can see the film, do so! I mean know many people that would refuse to see such a film because its in B&W or that its over 72 years old, but give it a chance. Even if you don't care for it, you would see how and why people like Al Pacino and Bergman dug it.

I saw it. It was quite good i enjoyed it. It was funny to see all the similarities with that one and the 1983 one.

I don't think we should see the old one, once you seen it you start comparing the scenes, then you start comparing the acting and in the end you will come to the conclusion that Montana was a remake of the older guy (meaning - he was copying, how he the older one acted). Montana is a legend lets keep it that way.

i totally dis-agree. thats a classic movie, its like saying never watch the Oceans 11(rat pack). Scarface (pacino) is the modern version and the 1932 is the original. comparing the two won,t make the 1932 version a lousy movie.

Is the only way to view this DVD with the set? They are selling the VHS on Amazon for $20!

Doc

And you liar, teller of tall tales: you trample all the Lord's commandments underfoot, you murder, steal, commit adultery, and afterward break into tears, beat your breast, take down your guitar and turn sin into a song. Shrewd devil, you know very well that God pardons singers no matter what they do, because he can simply die for a song.
