These lists are always subjective and completely prone to change each and every time they are published, but another one has just been announced in Empire (UK) magazine!

The Godfather Part II comes in at number 14. Defining moment is listed as Michael giving the Judas kiss to Fredo in Cuba. Other points of note are that De Niro became only the 2nd person to win an acting oscar for a subtitled role. George C Scott and Laurence Olivier were considered for the role of Roth. Also influenced Once Upon a Time in America/Heat and directors getting a "name your price" deal on sequels!!

The Godfather is number 6.
Defining moment is Jack Woltz getting head for breakfast. Obvious candidates for alternative actors playing roles. Influenced Sopranos/3 decades of mob movies/John Gotti's daughters wedding! and a million bad impressions of a man mumbling "I made him an offer he can't refuse"

Goodfellas came in at 13 and Lord of The Rings came in a 1, 3 and 8.

Oh, it looks like it was a reader-picked poll.

It was indeed reader picked, as a follow up to their previous one in 99. Expect another one in 2009 I guess!

Hey Don of Scotland,

Do the GFs translate well in Scotland? I had a humorous thought. Do the UK countries ever dub English, Irish, Welsh or Scottish voice-overs to English speaking (American) movies? I think it would be hilarious to hear Vito Corleone with a Scottish accent.

Maybe that's why GF2 only made it to # 14; bad translation.
