Mexican Navy Troops have arrested Mario Cárdenas Guillén, who shared the leadership of the Gulf cartel with Jorge Eduardo Costilla Sánchez, El Coss.

Shortly after 14:00 in the facilities of the (Siedo) the authorities will be making the announcement at a press conference in which the detainee will be presented to the media.

Federal officials assured that the Semar elements arrested Mario Cárdenas Guillén El Gordo, who has been noted as the substitute of Osiel Cárdenas Guillén since he was arrested in 2003, despite being incarcerated in the prison of Matamoros where he was admitted in 1995 after being accused of committing the offenses of organized crime and crimes against health.

The alleged detainee remained imprisoned until 2007 when he was released after completing his sentence.

Mario Cárdenas Guillén remained from 2003 to 2007 in the maximum security prison Puente Grande, Jalisco, where he was transferred on the grounds that he supposedly directed the Gulf cartel operations from the Matamoros prison.

After the death of Ezequiel Cárdenas Guillén, Tony Tormenta, in November 2010, Mario Cárdenas openly shared the leadership of the Gulf cartel with Eduardo Costilla.

"El Gordo" was arrested Monday by elements of the Navy after an operation in Altamira, Tamaulipas. He was found with a rifle, two grenades, cash, cartridges, a vehicle, and four bags of cocaine.

During the press conference it was reported that Mario Cárdenas Guillén is the brother of Osiel Cardenas Guillen. He is a suspect in several preliminary investigations.

El Diablo must have given him up, no?

I don't think El Diablo had direct contact with Mario "El Gordo" Cardenas. El Diablo was heavy but he wasn't heavy enough to know the details or whereabouts of the leader of the Gulf Cartel. If he was betrayed it was most probably Costilla that gave him up. There are dozens of other Gulf Cartel commadantes that are higher than El Diablo especially the ones around Matamoros and Reynosa. I see El Diablo as being the front for the Gulf Cartel in the Monterrey metropolitan area. He was appointed head of the plaza of Monterrey metropolitan area so he can get all the heat and not go after the ones in Reynosa and Matamoros where the Metros are based.

Yep it was Chapo's nephew that was coordinating the shipments to Spain but he was barely beginning, it was a test run but he still got busted. Chapo's is starting to move in into the European market and cutting off the Colombians as middleman for Europe. El Chapo is most probably in the mountains and jungles of the Sierra Madre.

Mexican police have arrested one of the alleged leaders of the Independent Cartel of Acapulco, Jose Quiroz Perez - known as Juan Diego - accused of killing at least 18 people this year.

Authorities say the drugs cartel is behind a spate of kidnaps and armed attacks in public areas, causing panic in a major tourist destination.

The cartel is also accused of extortion against businessmen and shop owners.

Eleven other suspected members of the drug cartel were also arrested.

Juan Diego and his group are accused of dumping the mutilated bodies of kidnapped rival gang members in some of the beach resort's central areas.

Messages with threats to rival gangs were left alongside the bodies.

Ramon Pequeno, head of the Federal Police's Anti-Drugs department, said Juan Diego began recruiting members from a rival gang - La Barredora - after the arrest of its leader in 2010.

In less than two years, Juan Diego's group managed to take control of most criminal operations in Acapulco - in Mexico's southern Pacific coast - and the nearby cities of Costa Chica and Guerrero, Mr Pequeno said.

The 12 suspects were arrested on Thursday with guns, vehicles and 150 bags of a white powder the police believe to be cocaine.

They were paraded before the media at the Federal Police headquarters in Mexico City.

I have heard that CIDA or Cartel Idependiente de Acapulco wants to be grow stronger to the extent of the main cartels in Mexico. CIDA mainly participates in retail drug sales and kidnapping as their main source of income.
