Office is premises of paving and construction companies with tens of millions in city contracts

A fire early this morning in the Montreal borough of Anjou heavily damaged the premises of two major city contractors, and police believe it may have been deliberately set.

The call came in to the fire department around 3 a.m., according to Montreal police spokesperson Anthony Cantelmi. Firefighters had the fire under control by 5 o’clock.

“According to witnesses onsite, they heard a window break and then the building caught on fire suddenly,” Cantelmi said.

Fire crews also found some canisters containing a flammable substance nearby. The Montreal police force’s arson squad is handling the investigation.

The building at Mirabeau and Vauban streets is the premises of Pavage CSF Inc., a paving company that has received tens of millions of dollars in contracts from the City of Montreal for work repairing and constructing sidewalks, curbs and traffic islands.

It is also listed in the provincial corporations registry as an office of Mirabeau Construction, a company that has landed contracts for at least $24 million in work, including major work on city sewers.

Numbered companies
Both companies are owned by a network of provincial and federal numbered corporations. The principal shareholder of one of Mirabeau Construction’s parent companies is Domenico Arcuri, while other shareholders of both companies are listed as Domenico Cammalleri and Domenico Miceli.

Arcuri has ties to the Rizzuto mob family. His name appears about 20 times in summaries of wiretaps from the joint police anti-Mafia operation Project Colisée, and he was spotted with Mafia bigwigs in December 2005 at the former Consenza Social Club in St. Léonard, an east Montreal café where Rizzuto and other mob bosses would meet.

The latest edition of the book Mafia Inc. by journalists André Noël and André Cédilot says Arcuri was at the heart of the reorganization of the Montreal mob.

Last weekend, a trio of homicides in the Montreal area — in which one victim was the leader of a prominent street gang and another victim a member of the same group — sparked speculation of emerging civil strife in the city’s underworld. It’s possible things are heating up before the anticipated return to Canada of Montreal Mafia kingpin Vito Rizzuto, who is scheduled to be released from a Colorado prison in the fall.

The shadow of the godfather Vito Rizzuto (which should leave the prison in Florence Colorado, after serving a 10-year sentence for his involvement in the murders of three lieutenants of the Bonanno clan committed in 1981 in New York in just over a month) seems to stretch on arson attacks suffered by the entrepreneur Domenico Arcuri, which over the past 10 days have been destroyed three vehicles.

In August, a Molotov cocktail was thrown at a commercial building owned by another company which holds shares Domenico Arcuri.

According to police sources, this could be the "gift" that close friends of the Sixth Family wanted him, waiting for his godfather, returning to Montreal, take back control of the Mafia family.

Domenico Arcuri is known to the police that in the course of anti-mafia Colisée intercepted him several times.

Arcuri, that even before the outbreak of the war of the Mafia in Canada had disagreements with Rizzuto, is shown, along with Joe Maulo, Raynald Desjardins, Salvatore Montagna and, as one of the men would put in check the Rizzuto.

Subsequently, as a result of internal dissension, Desjardins was the victim of an attempted murder. A few months after Montagna was lured into a trap and killed.

Desjardins for murder and four other people were arrested.

Until recently nobody would have bet on the return of Vito Rizzutoa Montreal, now there are many who believe that the boss will come back to take his place and avenge his family killed.

The tam tam the return of the boss persistently circulating in Italian circles, where it is said that the same family members Arcuri have tried to bring the Rizzuto loyalists to come to some sort of truce.

However, too much blood has been shed. The men who remained faithful to what was certainly the most powerful mafia family Canadian, encouraged by the imminent release of the boss, seems to have unceremoniously rejected the peace proposal of the opponents of Rizzuto.

A signal that can be read only as the determination of the clan to regain possession of the land, even at the cost of unleashing a bloody mafia war.

Moreover, as learned by the investigators, Vito Rizzuto was confided to a cellmate its expansionist ambitions that would see it projected a leadership role that would go well beyond the boundaries of what until recently was the territory dominated by the Sixth Family.

This will get worse before it gets better, seems it is just tip of iceberg.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/montreal/story/2012/09/16/montreal-firebomb-arcuri-saint-leonard.html

An ice cream manufacturer whose owner has ties to the Montreal Mafia was firebombed early Sunday morning in the city's St. Léonard borough, though there was little damage.

It's the sixth time in the last month that a business linked to Domenico Arcuri has been the target of arsonists.

Police said several Molotov cocktails were used to try to set fire to the rear of Ital Gelati at about half past midnight. A security guard was on the premises at 8390 Creusot Street and wasn't injured. The store suffered only minor damage.

Police have no suspects so far.

Just over two weeks ago, a van in the parking lot outside the building was set ablaze. The fire spread to two other cars and the garage next door, but not the ice-cream business.

Arcuri's interests have been hit at least four other times since the middle of August:

Earlier this week, three cars were torched in the parking lot of Signa Plus Inc., a Laval, Que.-based company that supplies traffic control signs.
A three-storey strip mall in the east-end Rivière-des-Prairies neighbourhood was attacked twice by arsonists, on Aug. 22 and again the following week, though neither incident caused much damage.
An office building in the borough of Anjou housing two city contractors — a paving business and a construction company — was heavily damaged by fire on Aug. 17. One of the businesses is part-owned by Arcuri, while both companies list his associates Domenico Cammalleri and Domenico Miceli as shareholders.
Arcuri has ties to the Rizzuto mob family. His name appears about 20 times in summaries of wiretaps from the joint police anti-Mafia operation Project Colisée, and he was spotted with Mafia bigwigs in December 2005 at the former Consenza Social Club in St. Léonard, an east-end Montreal café where Vito Rizzuto and other mob bosses would meet.

The latest edition of the book Mafia Inc. by journalists André Noël and André Cédilot says Arcuri was at the heart of the reorganization of the Montreal mob.

Arcuri could not immediately be reached for comment on Sunday.

It's speculated there's emerging civil strife in Montreal's underworld, possibly a sign that things are heating up before the anticipated return to Canada of Mafia kingpin Rizzuto, who is scheduled to be released from a Colorado prison next month.

That doesn't make sense, why would Rizzuto get an earlier release?

Thats what certain connected people have said. But one thing is certain is that the remaining rizzuto family and loyalists are back on top of the Montreal mafia. There trying to make the Arcuris come out of hiding. They can't run and hide forever.

No he hasn't turned rat. If he does it's to get au lesser sentence on his murder charge. Either way he's the walking dead. He's better off in prison.

Montague, you are right to question the word on the street.

The Federal Bureau of Prisons inmate locator still shows Vito is set to be released October 6, 2012 -- see

http://www.bop.gov/iloc2/InmateFinderSer...p;x=54&y=21

Whenever an inmate is released, even earlier than the actual or projected release, you won't be able to locate the inmate by using the locator.

Vito's uncle Domenico Manno is set to be released December 12 of this year from Fort Dix FCI in New Jersey -- see

http://www.bop.gov/iloc2/InmateFinderSer...p;x=67&y=19

If Manno is killed shortly after his release, I will probably have to eat my hat and then admit that the murders of Paolo Renda, Agostino Cun trera, and Nick Rizzuto Sr. were Paolo Violi's sons' finally avenging, after several decades, the murders of their father and uncles. Renda, Cun trera, Nick Sr., and Manno were implicated in the targeting and actual execution of Paolo Violi.

Thanks for that input Antimafia, those on the street which usually means young St. Leonard kids and bar loungers, still sees Rizzuto as some sort of mythical criminal demigod.

I can see how they'd believe he some how negotiated an early release to wreck havoc in Canada.

Agreed, although the word on the street can sometimes offer valuable insights that can not be achieved through research.

Also, the Rizzuto's muscle (Arcadi's faction) largely comprised of St. Leonard "kids" who hang out in bars like Consenza en Beaches. A lot of them were in their 20s and 30s.
