I just got a nice FD's present. One of my daughters just told me she needs all new tires. Oh, I feel just so fatherly.

My father passed away a year and a half ago but I'll share one of my favorite stories that makes me laugh still today.

I was about 12/13. We had a cottage on a lake and my dad was going fishing and I asked if I could go with him.
We had worms for bait and I didn't want to touch them so I asked my dad if he'd bait the hook. He did.

It was quiet for a while and my dad caught a couple fish. Finally, I had one on the line. I pulled the line toward me and tried to grab the fish. Each time when I touched it, I went "eww" "eww" and pulled my hand away from the slimy fish. Each time I tried to pull the line toward me I squirmed from touching a live fish. With the fish, still hanging on the line, it slapped my dad on one side of the face and then the other side as I was trying to reel it in. lol

This went on for what seemed like a long time. I was getting nervous cause I didn't want to make dad mad, yet deep down I was kind of cracking up when I saw that fish hit his face over and over. (You never want to laugh at your father when he's getting angry right?)

Finally frustrated, he said "damn-it Ann, you don't wanna bait your hook, you don't wanna touch the fish, why do you wanna go fishing?" lol He took the fish off the hook for me and within a few minutes I could see the smirk on his face and he started teasing me. Boy, when we got back he told my family and they all laughed.

That "Dad" story is among favorites. My dad & I would many times reflect back on our fishing trip. I even tell my grandkids and they laugh. Wonderful memory! smile

Great story TIS. However, when the kids were little, probably around 10-11 years old I took them camping, my son and two of my daughters. So, their mother and I are sitting in front of the tent watching them wading in the lake right near the shore. All at once they all start darting around, water splashing everywhere and reaching down into the water. I stood up and yelled at them about what they doing. One of my daughters yells back that they were chasing a snake. Of course, I almost went berserk yelling back for them to get the hell out of the water which they did.

You know when something like that happens it's almost like they were really bad. You want to make sure they realize the danger, but yet you are so thankful that nothing really bad happened. The rest of the trip I watched every move they made.

Yes Kly, those kinds of stories are the kind you don't know whether to chew them out or hug them but like you say are so glad you were there. smile

My youngest daughter was about 5 yrs old when she came to me from outside and said, "mom, animals, animals, a whole bunch of animals." confused I asked what kind of animals and asked here where they were. She told me they were outside by neighbors house. I didn't have a clue as to who she was talking about. None of our neighbors had a bunch of animals. She said "I don't know, come on come on." She grabbed my hand pulling me to go with her.

I did, went to the neighbors house, outside their back door was an empty milk container filled with garbage AND maggots. panic lol Ha ha ha. Naturally I cautioned her to stay away but sheez, I never thought of maggots. Ha ha ha

TIS

Sorry, more of a "mom" story

That is a great story TIS. I had been away from here so long that I did not know about your loss. So glad to hear you recall a good memory. We all miss our loved ones no matter how much time has elapsed since their passing.

I had a great day with my family. We went out to church followed by breakfast. From there we went to a baseball game. My wife treated me to her cutting the grass yesterday and then she cooked on the grill in a downpour. Not 5 minutes after she came in it stopped raining.

Happy Father's Day to all the dads! We made my husband a nice breakfast this morning, all his favorites. Then the girls and I drove with him to NJ to pick out two hens for the chicken coop we got him for his birthday a few weeks ago. We also gave him a portable greenhouse.

As nice as these days are, I always miss my dad, but we relish old memories and make new ones.

As I said on Facebook, "Happy Father's Day!

Tho I think it should be Dad's Day...

Cuz anyone can be a father, but only a real man can be a Dad."

...maybe someday I'll get a card and new tie. Tho mostly what I'd want is a high-five... Thankfully I already get that from my beloved nephews and niece smile

I was hoping for a foot rub and a never ending supply of beer bought to me.

What i got was a sick wife and 2 sick kids so i had to do all the chores, never got my foot rub and had to fetch and carry my own beer cry

I did get nice cards and a couple of good books though smile

Yogi,

Sorry your Father's Day didn't end up quite the way you might have thought. These things happen. The main thing is you got to be with your family and like you say a couple good books.

smile

Happy Father's Day belatedly to all. I got the obligatory tie, cards, etc. and got to spend the day with my family and some friends. We had some scheduling conflicts, but we were all together in the early evening for pizza, stromboli, tacos and beer.

I got to see my dad on Saturday at my niece's high school graduation party outside of Philly. Alzheimers is slowly taking a firm grip on him. He's kind of forgetful and loses his context in conversations. While sitting with him after I just arrived, I asked him how long he had been at the party. He paused, looked a bit confused and answered seriously, "Four years." Sometimes you have to laugh. He was also under the impression that I had just come from New Hampshire. But he still recognizes everyone and maintains his sense of humor. He still drives, but only in daylight.

Happy belated F Day. I've had the grandkids for two weeks while they are adding a playroom to their house. Lots of fun and chaos.

Klyd. Be careful of the driving thing with your dad. My mom hit a car in a parking lot and drove off. The car belonged to a cop. Try to get the keys sooner than later. It's a tough thing.

God bless to all fathers.
