USA Net eyeing 'Scarface' mini

Say hello to more little friends of Tony Montana's: Universal is looking to reload "Scarface" as an original limited series on USA Network. The cable channel is developing a multihour project that could resurrect the characters from Al Pacino's 1983 tour de force or explore other story lines set in the same Miami-based crime world. Universal retains the rights to those characters. Details are still sketchy as USA has just begun its efforts to lure top-notch talent on both sides of the camera to fill the shoes of Pacino and director Brian De Palma. Universal undoubtedly saw further potential for "Scarface" as a younger generation discovers the gangster drama on DVD, where the recently released two-disc "Anniversary Edition" drew advance orders for more than 2 million units. A four-hour edition of the film provided a ratings bonanza for USA last month -- the Oct. 12 airing drew 3.6 million total viewers, making it the highest-rated movie on basic cable that week. "Scarface" also could conceivably benefit from the marketing prowess of NBC, whose acquisition of Universal would likely be free and clear once the project is ready for air. USA declined comment. (Andrew Wallenstein and Scott Collins)

The scarface mini-series is a shit idea and here's why,
BECAUSE AL PACINO IS THE ONLY TONY MONTANA!!!
You will obviously not be able to have a younger Tony Montana played by Al Pacino, but AL PACINO IS SCARFACE. He made it what it is!!! THE IDEA IS ABSURD!!!

Yep, Tony Montana IS Al Pacino

No one would be able to replace him in a mini series.

End of story

I'm not so sure if this would work. I think that if they did make it, it would mostly be like how things are now, that is with more of the "gangsta" stuff, especially with the big rap influence that Scarface has had. But I guess we'll just have to see. I hope that they can get some good writers to do it, because it would be hard. I am still undecided if they should do this, because now it seems like that the entertainment business can't do anything original anymore. With the remakes and everything. I kinda think they should just leave Scarface how it is- a great movie. Why take a chance on spoiling it? ohwell

Ap Pacino is Not Tony Montana.

Tony Montana is Tony Montana. Anyone can play him but Pacino did it the best.

I wouldnt mind watching a Scarface mini series, the story of Scarface is a great premise no matter who plays Tony. I do agree that Al Pacino is the best that will ever be at playing the roll. But im sure it would be quality, worth watching show if they decided to make it, they would most likely make good casting choices. In my opinion It should be based on "The Return Of SF" novel. That way it would be original enough but still tie into the greatest movie ever made.

That's only because Scarface is rarely on TV and the Godfather is on HBO, Cinemax, etc. all of the time. -Pat

Interesting news and I wonder how they can aqcuire the rights and what Mr. Pacino and Mr. Depalma would think of Scarface as being a mini-series on television. That's some pretty high numbers for a movie.

im curious as to see how it would play out. it will prolly be made to fit my generation which will make it real bad. this wouldnt work just like "fast lane" didnt work as a modern day "miami vice" i think they should do it though but have it nothing to do wit tony montana or his son.

if they made one i would think they should do it about him being in cuba before comming to the united states because that would work better and wouldnt ruin it wereas if you tried doin it about his sons then your just selling off a name not what its about.

Wait a minute, I didn't know Tony had sons. I thought Elvira's womb was polluted.

He had 2 kids that were left in Cuba. It's in the Return of SF book, but not mentioned in the movie. -Pat

^^^^ Yeah but that was Alex Sanchez, not Tony rolleyes Scarface, as far as the general public is concerned, ended with Tony belly-flopping in that pool. No one knows if Tony had any kids previously

Alex Sanchez is Tony Montana, but his named was changed in The Return Of SF book for obvious reasons. If you read the original Scarface book, Tony was somewhat of a "whore" when it came to woman. Remember how he got his scar!
