Have any of you read this book?

http://www.myfathermydon.com/

Is it reliable?
And also, is there any reference pointing out Jimmy Napoli´s rank as a caporegime in the book?
Just recently I eyed a Genovese Family member chart done by the very respectable and knowledgable Bill Feather who listed him as a soldier.

Thanks guys in advance!

His father (Jimmy Nap) was a made guy and a captain. I'm not sure if Tony was ever made.

Oops! Sorry, I meant to say Jimmy Napoli. My bad!

And you´re right Ivy, Tony was not a made guy.

I see.
Is Jimmy Napoli mentioned in the book as a capo?
Do the authors describe him as a capo?

Yes they mention him as a capo. The book is more about relationship father-son, not only about Jimmy Nap.

These retired mob guys who write books and all that seem even less reliable than the ones who became informants. They try and gloss things over to make themselves look good and the people they hung around with.

Ive read a few things by sonny girard who i dont really know what to make of.He describes himself as a mid level player.

Were these guys the real thing or are they just former fringe players or muscle just trying to cash in on the whole wiseguy image?

Are you guys familiar with the book "The Secret Judge"?
That´s a prime example of somebody, on the fringes of the mob, trying to cash in on a mob story that is not even true!

Jimmy Napoli was the real deal! Tough guy and hardcore Mobster. His son Tony Nap was a drunk who was a big disappointment to his father!. He is trying to rake in money by throwing his fathers name around! The book was horrible it should have been written in crayons!

Probably the best books that I have read are - Underboss by gravano and Il boss é solo for Tommaso Buscetta.

Actually guys.... Tony Nap has been a friend of mine for two years now. I've hung out with him because he's a friend of my friend Joey that sings at clubs in the NJ area. We've hanged out more than a few times and he's always been a very nice person to me. I'm a also a Facebook friend of his, and we have wrote back and forth to eachother many times. He has told me himself he was a soldier and for those of you that want to send me a pm, I could send you a friend request and than send you a request to be friends of Tony's.

I think he did a great job on his book!!!

NJBoy, please clarify this.
Who was a soldier? Tony Nap...or was he talking about his father, Jimmy Nap?
This could be the answer to my initial question. smile

You make me laugh. I looked at his fb page and he's got like 2500 friends and you think somebody needs you as a go-between for his fb friendship? lol
I could friend him, be accepted, write "you're a douchebag" all over his wall, then un-friend his ass all before noon today.

Thanks for the responses guys!

Another thing that´s kinda confusing is Jimmy Naps entry into the Genovese Family.
According to FBI documents, reliable sources claim that Jimmy Nap was made in 1967. Tony Nap, on the other hand, says his father was made in 1976.
Being a memberchart freak/nerd that I am, I wish I knew the truth. smile

Hey NJBoob55... you're so focussed on me (not that I can blame you) that you neglected HairyKnuckle's question to you up there ^^^^. I was interested in hearing your answer to that too.

I have been secret friends of Tony Nap for 243 days and 17 hours. He's told me a lot of interesting stuff, I mean A LOT. But I just want to let you guys know I'm not going to share anything with you. Everything he said to me stays between him and me. No doubt about it. Now he told me that he's a made member and has killed 23 guys, 2 dogs and one butterfly. He's also a major illegally obtained mickey mouse action figure dealer. Tomorrow he's expecting a new shipping at Newark International Airport at 2 AM. He's also involved in the take-over in Montreal and will be the one who will fire two bullets at Vito Rizzuto's car when he gets out.

I never thought I would be posting on here.. but happened to stumble on this post and just thought it was time I comment. My father was also Jimmy Napoli and for parts of my life he was in jail. He was an amazing man, a real Gentleman Jim. If you met him you would just want to sit in his presence as he was quiet but when he had something to say he was profound and smarter than anyone I know. He was generous to everyone including the homeless and helped out many people's children go to college. He was offered millions to have his life story written and he turned it down. Unfortunately when he passed away family changed and people just wanted to ride of his coat tails. My father was the giving tree and that is what his son's book shows. I do not agree with the book but I do think the history of the mob is interesting and is "History" to be told and shared. I just feel my father would have expected more from his family. I feel I have a lot of my father in me and that is why I have not spoke all this time. My father was the real deal and I have not met anyone like him. He was a brilliant man and the last of the Gentlemen Gents.

Hi DN1. Welcome aboard.

I know it´s not easy talkning about family members on these kind of forums, but do you have anyting (Mafia related) on your father you would like to/could share with us? I know for an example that Jimmy Nap for many years respectfully declined offers to join the Mafia. But had to join eventually when he found himself in a bad situation with some mobsters trying to shake him down. Do you have any details on this? Also, I´ve heard that your father, when he was made, was put directly with Tony Salerno. He had no captain that he had to report to. Could you confirm or correct please?

You may PM me if you like.

Hairy Knuckles, I too came across this thread on the internet. I'm related to Jimmy Nap. I loved him dearly. DN1 is right on with her view of him. What I've been told by many family and close friends is that he didn't have to be made because all the families respected him. He was smart and respected by all; even the cops and judges. He decided to become made when he was indicted in the 70's cause he wanted to hold on to his numbers business he ran from the Highway Lounge on Metropolitan Ave. He wanted it to be there when he came out. Yes, Tony Nap was a hardcore alcoholic and madman. Jimmy was embarrassed by him and always sent him away when he caused trouble in the neighborhood. Jimmy was close with Fat Tony Salerno, Matty the Horse, and Louis "bobby" Manna. He was initally under Funzi Tieri.

How rich was Jimmy Napoli compared to other big shot mobsters of his era? I've always been more interested in the amount of money they take in than anything. Did he make enough annually to compare to guys like tony salerno, Jerry Catena, Gambino, lombardozzi etc. in terms of wealth and power?

I think lil als book said he was a contender for the boss spot when tommy ryan eboli got blown away but it went to funzi, when Lombardo may have been the real boss the whole time. there some stuff about him in the scarpa files but its retracted some times you got to guess the black line. scarpa makes it sound like funzi tieri was boss but I think he just ran Brooklyn. he maybe was underboss then they were very sneaky. to day we don't have a clue to who runs that family. but they always seem to have one of the top 3 from n.j.
