I think thousands of lives could/would be saved if it weren't for the certificates issued to doctors to prescribe Suboxone. A majority of these doctors are abusing this at least in Pennsylvania. Your regular doctor can't prescribe this because hes required to have a second dea number starting with the letter X. A majority of these doctors will only accept cash, the only insurance that seems to cover it is welfare insurance. There are some doctors that monitor their patients but it is not common. I'm curious to know what the common practice for this in other states or countries?

De-criminalize, control (like prescription meds but without a Dr. script) and tax. Spend the money on education and treatment.

The advantages:
1. De-criminalization of illegal drugs. Puts the cartels and criminal distribution networks in search of a new business. Derivative effect - less crime and violence.
2. European models show a reduction in use.
3. Quality goes up - pharmaceutical companies do not "step on" (dilute) their product. Derivative effect - consistent dosing and less side effects / untoward effects.
4. Tax revenue - both federal and state.
5. Reduction in prison population, court cases / proceedings.

The Disadvantages:
1. Wide spread availability of mind / mood altering drugs.
2. New / changed bureaucracy - what does the DEA do now?
3. Mexico and other nations will see massive funding from the US dry up from the end of the "Drug War". How does it effect their economies.
4. Tax revenue - will it be spent on roads and tanks or actually be spent on treatment and education.

the truth is that drugs will never be legalized until the government can find a way to make more money off them being legal than illegal. with the huge amounts of money involved in prisons, courts,local, state, and federal law enforcement its not looking like it will be anytime soon and even if a state decides to regulate pot the government has shown like in california that they don't care and will continue to enforce outdated laws rather than scale down on law enforcement budgets.

the whole pot issue is the one that really gets me going. whether you smoke it or not we live in an information age. anybody with a computer and ten minutes can see that not only is it pretty much the safest out of all recreational drugs, but the laws that made it illegal in the first place were so crazy that it boggles the mind. hemp, a non-psychoactive relative of cannibis is also illegal to grow in the united states. hemp has so many uses that i don't even fell like listing them all. so instead of growing it here and putting people to work, we are forced to import it from canada and other countries.

look at cigarettes. they kill an estimated 420,000 people a year just in america. i'm not saying that they should be illegal by any means as i strongly believe that you should be able to put anything that you want into your own body as long as it doesn't hurt anyone else. it just goes to show you that this whole antiquated idea that drugs are illegal to keep you safe from yourself is just a huge load of bullshit as legal drugs(tobacco,alcohol,pharmacuticals) kill loads more people than "street drugs".
