The very interesting Friends of Our site presents Carlo Gambino´s FBI files and a summary in a nice article here:

http://bitterqueen.typepad.com/friends_o...lo-gambino.html

The problem is that Gambino´s files are very thin in regards to juicy Mafia stuff, but some personal data can be found on him and his family.
The files have been available for couple of years now and as always they are heavily redacted and blackened. Not a good read... mad

Gambino had been a subject for the US immigration office for a long time. They found out that he had entered US illegally but no action was taken against him other than a couple of served subpoenas. Doctors testified that Gambino had a very bad heart and to put him throgh hearings and trials would be hazardous to his health. No wonder why Gambino was so extremely secretive and cautious. He apparantly did not like the idea of being deported back to Italy.

Two or three years before he was arrested (in 1970 for conspiracy if memory serves me right), he temporarily severed himself from Family business and allowed Paul Castellano to take the reins of the Family.
Gambino enjoyed a genuine reverence from his underlings. But he was also feared. He was no stranger to ordering killings. A true "lion and a fox".

Yeah, GAmbino was shrewd and smart like a fox. But he could, of course, be violent when necessary. But it's kind of comical to look at Gambino, with his skinny, stooped frame, scrawny appearance, and mild-mannered look and think "Big, Bad Mob Boss."

I downloaded these Gambino files when they were first released and thought they were very disappointing. Too heavily redacted, i could barely read any of it. A few interesting things about his heart condition and the effort to deport him over the years but thats about it as far as i can remember.

Best part was the comment by RFK who "expressed an interest in the intermarriage within the blood family of CARLO GAMBINO" and the supposed "resulting imbeciles and morons that have come from such close intermarriage." LOL!! That shit still cracks me up every time i read it. lol

I think he hates italians as well..and i wouldn't doubt if he was the one who put the cigar in galante's mouth after he was killed..as did many others according to his own book ''the coffey files''

Why is it so heavily redacted? The dude has been dead for 40 years, I seriously doubt there is anything in there that could give mafiaso intelligence advantages.

Should probably ask Mr. Kierney. I guess if you're Italian, you should be in prison.
I've read the RICO Act, and I can tell you it's more appropriate...
for some of those guys over in Washington than it is for me or any of my fellas here

I'm no fan of Coffey either, theres just something about the guy I dont like.
Art Ruffels and Walter Mack seem genuine straight up guys who simply tell their story.
Coffey seems a "camera whore" to me
