So, why did the Hebrews need to designate their homes during the original passover with lamb's blood? Certainly the Lord knew where they lived. The Lord did know where they lived but the Angel of Death wasn't that familiar with the neighborhood.

So, why did the Hebrews need to designate their homes during the original passover with lamb's blood? Certainly the Lord knew where they lived. The lamb's blood on doorposts was part of a detailed set of commandments God imparted to the Hebrews of Egypt, through Moses. that included slaughtering and consuming a lamb as part of a ritual meal called a seder (Exodus Ch. 12). Certainly God was omniscient, and knew who was and wasn't a Hebrew. But, by requiring Hebrews to observe those rituals (including blood on doorposts), God was requiring Hebrews to positively assert their faith in God and belief that God would deliver them from slavery the very next day. God is omniscient and omnipotent but grants humanity free choice. Simply sparing the Hebrews because God knew they were Hebrews would hardly constitute free choice by people or affirmation of faith.
