Hey what's going on guys. My name is Josh, and I'm better known as Mr. Morbid. I just wanted to stop by and introduce my self. Here's a little background about me. I'm 30, and I've been interested in researching organized crime, since I was a teenager, I've got a keen or rather compulsive obsession with finding & documenting the gravesites of mobsters from around the country.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to contributing the things I've learned, and learning from others on the forum.

Welcome, Josh smile.

Re: Your obsession with gravesites. I'm retired from the funeral service industry in New York City. You probably already know this, but check out Saint John's Cemetery in Middle Village and Greenwood Cemetery in Brooklyn. There are enough wiseguys buried in those cemeteries to form a sixth family whistle.

Hey pizzaboy, that's pretty interesting about being retired from the funeral industry in NYC. At one time I wanted to be a funeral director, and/or a mortician. As for Greenwood, and St. John's, and other cemeteries in NY, they are on the bucket list of places to check out. I'd imagine I'd have one helluva field day if I ever visited the cemeteries in NYC.

Welcome Josh!

If ever going to New York, make sure you don´t confuse the murky Ruby Street off Conduit Blvd and 75th street in Brooklyn with Saint John`s Cemetery.
Although some mobsters were buried off Ruby Street, the place is NOT an official cemetery...

Hey ya Morbid/Josh. Welcome to the boards mate.

How do you document the gravesites? Pictures? Or actually do that 'rubbing' thing? If you could share some of the gravesites you've been to, I think that'd be pretty interesting and a bit different from what we normally see here.

(cough.)

Mickey, I pretty much just take photographs of the mafia gravesites I've been to in the Detroit, Chicago, and L.A. area. I've also done gravestone rubbings in the past but its kinda time consuming, and labor intensive to do that but it does add a new dimension to things so to speak.

Also to help spice things up a bit I've been known to do graveside video documentaries with my camcorder, of gangster gravesites. The older videos I've made and uploaded to You Tube are kinda primitive to the newer videos I've made which have photos, and voice-over narration. If your interested here's a link to my You Tube page: http://www.youtube.com/user/GraveHunterGuy

Thanks for the link Mark, I'm quite aware of that website. If you do a Google search and type in "Grave Hunting" "Celebrity Graves" and things along those lines a few sites will pop up in the search. One of the more well known grave hunting sites on the net is "Find a Grave"

When I lived in the East New York section of Brooklyn, I regularly passed the Dutch Reformed Church on New Lots Avenue near Jerome Street. Their graveyard had headstones going back to the late 17th Century, with the names of the original Dutch settlers--Van Siclen, Van Sinderen, etc. Found out later that it's the second-oldest cemetary in NYC.

When we visited Paris, we spent a half-day at the famous Pere Lachaise Cemetary. Fabulous place! Contains the graves of Chopin, Colette, Judah P. Benjamin--and Jim Morrison.

Sweet, Pere Lachaise Cemetery is one of the places on my list to check out. Unfortunately I doubt I'll ever get to Paris in my life time, but then again I've surprised my self with the places I've visited.
