Finally figured out how to embed properly. Always loved this movie. Love how they make Sammy look like aggressor and the one who wanted to kill DiBernardo, portrays him as real blood thirsty.

Armand Assante as Gotti always one been of the best portrayals. Love this movie, one of HBO's finest, even though it movies quite a bit like a TNT/USA Network movie. Great flick though.

For a movie done by HBO in the mid-1990's, I thought it was very well done.

Any news on the Travolta / Gotti movie? Is it in production or was it cancelled? Don't think the (aging) Travolta can top Assante's performance.

Yeah. It's a great movie. You'll never see another actor portray Gotti as well as Assante. Magic.

Yeah. Once every couple months the producer swears it's in "pre-production," but from what I've read Travolta and Pacino are both attached to other projects that will last at least a year. I have a feeling that if it ever happens, it will be with a different cast and go straight-to-dvd.

I agree 1000%, the way Assante spoke, the words he used, that machine-gun like vernacular; it's like Assante hung out with Gotti for a few weeks at Marion.

Even like the touch of using Bruce Cutler's, Giacalone, and Agent Gabriels names. The criticism of Gotti's Napolitan heritage, etc. It's surprisingly very well researched.

It's also hilariously great how they portray Gotti as a neighborhood hero and Gravano as the aggressor, blood-thirsty one.

There was a story going around that Greg Depalma sat Assante down and saw to that. But then again, Depalma was the one who circulated the story. And he was known to exaggerate.

Like Gotti's old crew went over to the filming crew, "And this is how's it's gonna be, OK?" "John gonna look like a hero, K?"...

Last I read they had found other financing and the movie is going to start shooting later this year...

Assante gained like 40 pounds to play the cannoli-loving Gotti. He really tried to re-create Gotti on the screen.

Yes, that is a cool movie. I would like to see the Travolta/Pacino one as well.

Gravano was portrayed so well by William Forsythe. One of my favorite roles in any movie. Another thing I really liked was how they portrayed the lower level Mafia members (such as Gotti's crew before he killed Castellano). Just a bunch of street guys. No glorification BS. Obviously Gotti was way off in this movie, but he had to be shown as a hero since he's the main character. My favorite scene was the final confrontation between Gotti and Gravano after they are arrested. To alpha guys going at each other. Classic.

It was a pretty good movie.

My favorite character was Neil Dellacroce, Anthony Quinn did an awesome job on that role.

I guess Anthony Quinn being personal friends with Frank Costello helped him do a kickass job potraying an old school mobster.

great story and everything,but the camera angles acting and sayings werent that great as goodfellas i mean look at this lol

Entirely different budget, so you can't make a camera angle argument.

It cost HBO a ham sandwich and a couple of large pies to make "Gotti," in comparison to a huge studio production like "Goodfellas."

gotti 4.00 million to make goodfellas was 25.00 million,

all im saying is why waste such a good story,without the proper funds & effort for the project,
thats why i dont want to see the westies film in 2015 get made there already talking about indepently funding it,i rather see a HBO Mini Series like band of brothers of it,

Paul Haggis and Robert Moresco already made 'Black Donnelleys' a few years back now. Moresco's brother was killed in HK 1983. Think he went into writing about the old days of HK and carved out a career in this. I think he still lives in the neighbourhood. The old man was a longshoreman.

I thought it was okay nothin to blow your socks off and it got lots a stick and it was going up against the Sopranos but yeah it weren't too bad. Not as bad as they said it was anyhows. Well worth a look if you ain't expecting a masterpiece. Still better than a ton of other crap that passes for mob related stuff. Then again I was wasted when I watched the set and the little runts prancing around like leprechauns had me in fits . Maybe you just had to be Irish I don't know.

Wasn't there some mention of pressure to not display Gotti's goomah(s)...any man doesn't spend time with his family is not a real man...opps! wrong Don...
