I thought I'd start a thread for TOMORROW'S oscars. I am sure I'll contribute though I have not seen any of the nominees (which has never stopped me before) lol

Honestly I am only looking forward to this show cause I like it when Billy Crystal hosts and of course I love to see the fashion and who's with whom. wink AND I like discussing here on the BB with my friends.

The link I've included gives you the opportunity to vote though I don't expect it'll be open for votes much longer.

Tis is such an awards show geek tongue grin.

I'm rooting for anyone but Clooney, Pitt and Jolie. I can't stand the sight of any of them anymore.

TIS, my mother said the same thing this morning. She was surprised that my daughter, who works on Sundays, was home. She said, "This happens when you retire. Every day is the weekend."

There are nine movies nominated. When did they start nominating so many. People used to say that it was an honor just to be nominated. Now they can say that it is an insult not to be nominated.

Ididn't see these movies, and have no idea what they're about, except Moneyball, which I read about ten years ago. I'll root for that.

I'll also pick Rooney and Clooney.

I'm glad to see Billy Crystal back in the driver's seat. He is very funny and always seems to do well at the Oscars. I think they should have him and Steve Martin host it together next year.

It's the third year. Previous two years nominated 10 movies, but with a new balloting (and chaotic) scheme, between 5 and 10 movies could be nominated if they have enough 1st place votes. This year, 9 got nominated.

Ha ha ha! I was watching that night as it happened. Niven was so cool, calm & collected. Love his remark: "The only laugh that man will probably get is by stripping down and showing his shortcomings." lol

The next night I remember Johnny Carson's guest was "The Academy Awards Streaker." lol

My favorite Oscar moment ~ the honorary Lifetime award given to Charlie Chaplin. I remember the standing ovation he received seemed to go on forever, and that was back in the day when many REAL Hollywood legends were still alive (the early '70s).

Oh yea, I remember that one too SC. At that time Chaplin was like....wow, a silent screen star that I had only seen in old movie clips and he was STILL alive. Don't know if I had ever heard him speak til then actually. He looked nothing like the movies I had seen. He had a daughter who was an actress too remember? Geraldine I believe.

You're right though, legends WERE legends back then OR at least it was way different than today.

Looks like I better get a good night's sleep to prepare for the annual LIVE BBlog of results... tho I really don't care much since I haven't seen any of them. Maybe I should do the Emmy's instead next year... wink

BSing or telling the truth?

Quote:
Mark Wahlberg has claimed to know who will win at the Oscars on Sunday, courtesy of "a friend at Pricewaterhouse," according to the Huffington Post.

Quote:
But Wahlberg has stated confidently that "The Artist" will triumph in the Best Picture category, with its star Jean Dujardin also taking home the prize for Best Actor.

If we take him at face value, it appears that Wahlberg was given the full lowdown on the Oscar's bash. "The Fighter" and "Contraband" star also let slip that "The Help" will have a big night, with Viola Davis winning Best Actress and co-star Octavia Spencer prevailing in the Best Supporting Actress category.

Quote:
Such is the 40-year-old star's apparent inside knowledge that his declarations even stretch to the awards' technical categories.

"'Transformers' will win for best sound editing, and "Hugo"--they will win Best Costume, Production and Cinematography."

What an ass. Even if he DID have such "inside info" he shouldn't be spouting out about it.

I'm kind of with you there Geoff. Since I watch more tv than go to movies, I prefer the Emmys and also The People's Choice Awards. The Oscars haven't been the same for quite a while. frown I am assuming that Billy Crystal may make this show a bit more entertaining.

For me, nothing beats the sheer joy that Roberto Benigni displayed when "Life is Beautiful" won for Best Foreign Language Film. What a wonderful moment!

AHH!!! I couldn't think of the guy's name (loved that moment!) -- for some reason I thought it was Adrien Brody for the longest time...

The Grammy's was live from L.A. and didn't air here until after the East Coast. The Oscars, live from L.A. also, and we can watch at the same time as the East Coast. Don't have a clue as to why they do that.

I am not excited about the nominees so much. I haven't seen the films. I'll still watch most of it though. I've seen some nice gowns tonight.
