1) Snatch
2) Lock, Stock and two Smoking Barrels
3) Layer Cake
4) Rock 'n' Rolla
5) Bank Job (Based on a true story)
6) Rise of the foot soldier (Based on a true story)

All fairly recent British films and all brilliant, the oldest is Lock Stock which I think is probably knocking on for 10 years now (Possibly older?). Bank Job is a great film, a true story about some photographs of the English royal's which were stolen and Rise of the foot soldier charters to story of the 'Essex Boys' who were murdered in a gangland execution back in 1995.

"Billy Bathgate"---> Great book, horrible movie. Seeing Nicole Kidman naked is the only redeeming feature.

"Thief"-->Saw it again recently, a great early Michael Mann flick. Can see some early elements that he used in HEAT. Good realistic potrayal, and loved the heist scenes. Supposedly, Mann employed real safecrackers as technical advisors to make it look more realistic. A true gem, IMO Caan was his usual bad-ass self.

pay me. Place got hit by lightning huh? Fuck you, pay me. It was
beautiful!". ---Henry Hill in "Goodfellas"

1. The Pope of Greenwich Village. This is what it is like being an Italian-American growing up in NYC. They pinned it. Also a great Book.

2. There are two movies 'The Thief'; I prefered the
latter w/Alex Baldwin in the starring role. Sonny Caen was in the earlier film.

3.On the Waterfront. How could anyone forget it. It is The Mob Movie.

4. Joe Montagna lovers-- 'Things Change' w/Don Ameche.

5. Reaching way back-- Public Enemy w/James Cagny-- The best gangster role ever.

6. Little Ceaser w/Edward G. Robinson. Another knock yer socks off older film.

Bogart, Robinson & Cagny made dozens of organized crime films back in the 1930s thru the 1950s. Also Richard Widmark made a big splash into the genre, though by that time it was being called film noir. Also the French have made alotta gangster films. See 'Breathless', the French film not the Hollywood version. It's the French 'Goodfellas', giving a background of the life of a French criminal Foot Soldier. whistle

I hate to nitpick, but for number 2 its ALEC Baldwin and the films you refer to are Thief (1981) and Thick as Thieves (1999). Dont mind me tongue

And another thing, YOU LIKED THICK AS THIEVES MORE THAN THE MASTERPIECE THAT IS THIEF? I am astonished and heart broken that such an opinion exists.

LOL, first time I laffed all day. Thanx.

I just finished watching 'The Enforcer' w/Joe Pesce co-starring. Also has Frank Vincent in a smaller role, But the kicker was Martin Scorcese's parents were in it. Father is a face in the crowd but Mom has a small speaking role. It's on YouTube. The name is The Enforcer or Mob Enforcer from 1976. Good movie on its own.
