Something i have never understood not sure if its in the first episode but where Silvio asks Tony if he went to school with Artie Buco.

I can't understand this bit as surely they all regularly eat at visuvio which is why Charmaine is always on Artie's back. I assume that Silvio and Paulie being the age they were have been in the mob and aroun Tony for some time so its not like Silvio was new to the mob life and hadn't known Tony.

Infact it almost looks like in the first eps that Silvio wasn't meant to be one of the main characters. What position did Silvio hold at that time, was he a Capo?

My memory is abit hazy but appreciate anyone clearing it up.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that Silvio was indeed a last minute addition to the cast. Something about David Chase being a huge Springsteen fan and heard Steven Van Zandt wanted to be in Sopranos bad. However, all the roles were cast so Chase created the role especially for Little Stevie. I could be wrong?

sure he was a capo but I never knew who he had in his crew.. I'm sure he was from juniors side of the family .. as junior wanted to kill little pussy malanga in arties joint and sil was asking if he went to school with artie? - however in later seasons Tony says him and Sil went way back - when Junior used chase them from the Executive Card Game, think it seems a bit of a contradiction - Sil would have known Artie too..and definitely knew Tony knew him also...Aint watched season 1 in a while .. need to lol.. wink

Haha well spotted gemini_killer i remember that ep when Silvio is on about its all about him not eating shit from Johnny Sac.

Its almost fun to try and find the plot holes and such with The Sopranos because there isn't many, especially obvious goofs.

Although Vito being Gino lol.

Was just watching the episode there when Ralphie is explaining to Jackie Jnr and his friend about when Tony and Jackie Aprile turned over Feech's card game.

Ralphie says back in the day him, Jackie, Tony, Silvio etc had there own little gang and thought they were the 6th family but really just shit heels. Thought id add that in lol.

Haha yeah, who was Gino in relation to the Aprile crew, was he a soldier or ?. Can't believe they completely changed it, they could have just stuck with Gino.

you can kinda throw everything out from that first episode. it was just a pilot. ya know to see how things would run. it was orgnianlly filmed in like 97 i believe and the actual run didn't start till 99. you can notice alot of dif changes. even Satriale's Pork Store is called something else. adriana was nothing but an extra. father phil was a dif actor in the first episode. im sure there is more but i can't recall them off hand.

The first episode (the pilot) was filmed in 1997. But obviously the series didn't get picked up permanently until later, continuing in 1999. That's why there was some initial discrepancies. In addition to Silvio's character, you'll also notice Tony is the boss in the first episode, while later he is a captain. And if you look closely, you'll see that both Meadow and AJ look older in the second episode when compared to the pilot. The name of the Pork Store was also different in the first one.

Never realized that Tony was the boss in the first ep.

I do see the pork store had changed though, seemingly they were demanding too high money so they just changed it altogether.

I've said it before but the pilot is the only episode with narration..

Yeah, and you'll recall that scene where Junior says to Tony, "You may run North Jersey but you don't run your uncle Junior."

By the way, apologies for repeating what you said in the post right before mine.

The way i always took the North Jersey line was that Tonys crew ran North Jersey. Now i know nothing about Jersey but didn't the family run the whole of Jersey ?

No, the Soprano family - like the real life DeCavalcantes - were active in North Jersey. In the first episode, when Junior says Tony "may run North Jersey," that essentially meant he was running the entire family. You'll recall in season 3, when Paulie and Chris get lost down in the South Jersey woods. Atlantic City aside, it was almost like a foreign country to them.

I don't think they ever controlled North Jersey. The Genovese family has always been the strongest family in the state. In the past, the main source of influence for the DeCavalcantes was their involvement in the construction industry in North Jersey. But, unlike the Sopranos, they never were really big into garbage or the waterfront. And their traditional territory wasn't particularly expansive even within the northern part of the state.
