For my Gina, I found this photo online. Can you guess who it is??

Click to reveal..
It's Mike Vitar, better known as Benny "The Jet" Rodriguez from The Sandlot. He got out of acting and became a firefighter. Edit: I just noticed that his name is on his shirt! lol

Well TIS, I saw BOURNE LEGACY and wow, what a disapointment. I'm giving it a thumbs down.

Really really really takes it's sweet time to get going, those people who called TDKR "boring" should go this and be refamiliarized with that word. By the time the movie starts going, it was too little, too late for me and I couldn't care about these people or get myself involved in the narrative.

I think what's hilarious is the whole plot device (or the macguffin excuse to fuel these action narratives) involves our hero the super agent lab rat needing his little blue pills (no not Viagra) or else he'll regress intellectually. Think of this as the action movie remake of CHARLY.

That might explain why the audience at my screening were less lively than a Morgue. Seriously I can't believe a Bourne movie can be simply dismissed as "boring."

Still I suppose the good things that could've been found in a good one of these pictures. I liked how Jeremy Renner outsmarts that Predator drone trying to assassinate him, his confrontation with that wolf (2nd movie this year after THE GREY where the hero fights wild doggie 1-on-1). Even that trap he pulls on that henchman using the fire extinguisher was brilliant.

Also this might come off as petty, but...the villains' motivations don't make much sense. Yes the earlier Bourne movies more or less were about evil CIA people trying to assassinate somebody, but it's only 1 or 2 people at most for containment. It makes sense, at least for a movie.

But Edward Norton kills dozens of people, including supposed top-assets in North Korea and Iran, and that's where my willingness to suspend disbelief has been wrecked. The problem with any conspiracy in general is that how do you keep such shit quiet? 1 or 2 people die, hey shit happens. 20-30 die within your division and affiliated agencies, well gee that shit doesn't happen everyday.

In the Bourne Legacy is the lead character meant to be playing the character that Matt Damon played?

I dont get why they made this film without Matt Damon( i guess he didn't want to play him again), it's like making Rocky without Sly..

No, completely new character. It's odd that Jason Bourne is mentioned but doesn't appear in his own series. It's like a Batman movie set around Batgirl or James Bond but set on Q. (or basically JAMES BOND JR.)

Damon didn't want to do it, claimed he wouldn't do another Bourne unless Paul Greengrass is directing, and he also has no interest either.

Universal made this because Bourne was a lucrative franchise for them like 007 and Batman. To be fair, the idea of how they can continue the series without the star (outside of recasting) is not a bad concept if executed right.

Which they didn't, they just executed it.

I'd really like to see Tom Cruise do a dramatic role for once, the roles he play are all the same and safe for him.. i personally have not seen him in a good film since Born on the forth of July, he was amazing in that film..

Who could possibly come back for the sequel? Meg Ryan, Val Kilmer, Tom Skerritt? None of them are looking too good these days. Ew.

Thanks for the review RR. smile Comments I have read included many saying that it was too far into the movie before any action started. The previews they've shown on tv show a jump from a building into a the window of another building. Great stunt work but was a scene in "Bourne Ultimatum." The CIA guy (the one that looks like Robert Kardashian - OJ's lawyer) Asking "Who is that guy", also is a familiar line from the last Bourne.

I likely will see it when it comes to HBO or tv but I won't have too high expectations. ohwell I can understand Damon not wanting to make another (sequels can get so worn out and actors type-cast to one role, tho don't know if that would be the case with Damon)BUT all the Bourne movies have really kept me on the edge of my seat and have been so entertaining. I'd be a sucker for another Bourne (with Damon anyway). smile

SB, thanks for giving me not only a gorgeous photo but also a good laugh! lol I thought it over and decided that I should go ahead and admit I've seen that shot of him once or twice... I was, uh, researching the movie and somehow ended up looking for current pictures of Mike Vitar. It's easy to get lost in the world wide web, ya know? wink

Gi, glad that you got a laugh. It was so funny that right after I posted it, I noticed his damn name! Did you ever see the one of him cuddling his enormously pregnant wife? Too weird. I thought he would look more like his brother, who played the adult Benny, but he retained that boyishness. Not that I've given it much thought, no, not at all. whistle

TIS, they said that "Political Animals" was only going to be six episodes. I wasn't even sure if there was going to be a Season 2. As for The Newsroom, I didn't love last week's episode, so I'm hoping for a better one this week.

I didn't know (or forgot) that Political Animals was to be only 6 episodes. They'd need to wrap up it then now. I'm guessing a second season w/b coming though.

After hearing about this, I looked into it being a big Bourne Trilogy fan... From what I read, Jason Bourne is the project name not Damon's character, apparently there were more than 1 guy that was altered as Damon's character was, it was a very lengthy thing I read I cant remeber alot of what they said but that is this jist of it..

In the original Robert Ludlum books, "Jason Bourne" was an alias shared by many agents before David Webb took over the alias, and well then had his memory accident.

Cruise tried to get this produce several years back, the revealed plotline at the time was that a retired Cruise is now training pilots, comes into conflict/romance with a hot shot rookie female cadet. (Reportedly this part was originally set for Katie Holmes. Yeah I don't think she'll be available for this.)

Look I didn't like the first TOP GUN, the world doesn't need this sequel. But since my opinion is irrelevant for this inevitable sequel, this isn't a bad basic approach to the Danger zone I suppose.

SB, it's one of those episodes in which there is a "surprise" (for lack of a better word). It really is a very good episode. I think my favorite of the six. smile

Not that you'd do otherwise, but DO watch last week's first or it would be a tad confusing. Let me know what you think after you see it ok?

Caught THE EXPENDABLES 2, which I actually sorta enjoyed in spite of being borderline disposable. Considerable improvement over the very disapointingly forgettable first EXPENDABLES, the action here is much better executed, especially the opening sequence.

There are good laughs, with Dolph Lundgren actually nearly stealing the show. People who only remember him for Ivan Drago or He-Man will be pleasantly surprised by his comedy talent, but I remember him exhibiting similar charm and humor in B-movies produced back in the day like SHOWDOWN IN LITTLE TOKYO and I COME IN PEACE. Alot of the meta-references I could've lived without, even if my screening crowd ate them up.

I'll give Van Damme credit, he took a bland villain part and made himself rather interesting in an inexplicable abnormal sort of way with the odd pauses inbetween his mumbled orders and neck crankings, and of course wearing shades in broad daylight. Add his Dutch accent and shitty acting, he stands out. Is this villain on drugs? Is he a lunatic? It's...fascinating, I'll give him that.

Many scenes when something doesn't explode drag, I think the Sly/Van Damme fight goes on too long and kinda boring, contrast with the fun brawl between Jason Statham and DTV action star Scott Adkins, which was too short. (IMO you can't ever go wrong with two guys fighting around a rotating helicopter propeller blade.)

But I'll give this flawed sequel credit, that scene is worth seeing in big screen cinema glory. That shot before the climax when you have the Terminator, Rambo, and John McClaine standing together decked out with weapons ready to go kill many foreign bad guys...tell me that moment, a realized boyhood fantasy for many men, doesn't bring a smile to your face.

I give this ***1/2 out of 5.

Sounds about what I expected RR. I may try to catch that movie this weekend.

"When the snows fall and the white winds blow, the lone wolf dies but the pack survives."
Winter is Coming

Now this is the Law of the Jungle—as old and as true as the sky; And the wolf that shall keep it may prosper, but the wolf that shall break it must die.
As the creeper that girdles the tree-trunk, the Law runneth forward and back; For the strength of the Pack is the Wolf, and the strength of the Wolf is the Pack.

If you can and if you do see it, tell me what trailers played with it.

Besides Arnold's "comeback" movie THE LAST STAND, they also played this trailer, from director Walter Hill (THE WARRIORS, 48 HRS).

The CIA guy (the one that looks like Robert Kardashian - OJ's lawyer) Asking "Who is that guy", also is a familiar line from the last Bourne.

I'd be a sucker for another Bourne (with Damon anyway). smile

The lack of action early on wasn't the problem. (I mean how long before the action in DIE HARD start, 30 minutes in? Would modern audiences call DH boring?)

It's just tedious set-up with BOURNE LETHARGY. It's the usual shit that in rewrites you eliminate or compress in making your points or tell your story but with a quicker route. LETHARGY didn't.

I hope that movie proves to snobs that popcorn, no matter how much you want to dismiss it as a toy commercial or bland tentpole commercialism, are still hard work that isn't as easy as hooking up your new TV. It's not a sleep walk, even for good filmmakers or respected ones. An art really that seperate the good ones from the junk like this or the recent lame TOTAL REACLL remake that'll quickly fade into deserving obscurity.

I watched bits and pieces of Mob Wives. However, I don't see it listed anymore. I do see Chicago Mob Wives (or something like that). Is it the replacement?

Good news for Beatles fans: The restored MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR is getting released on Blu-Ray on October 9. The most interesting of special features is the audio commentary track by Paul McCartney. (He directed and was the mastermind of that mess.*)

*=But a great soundtrack, of course.
