Well, I never lived in NY but I LOVE to visit it. It's an awesome city.
I see two from my home state, Flint, Detroit made the list. How sad. Don't know a whole lot about Flint but Detroit was once a neat city. I hear the Governor might "select" aa emergency manager there.
On the bright side, I see Napa, CA made the happiest city. Of course it's happy. That's where they make all that great wine.

My husband cannot wait to start his garden this summer and use his homemade fertilizer. He read in his "Raising Chickens for Dummies" that the chicken poop is supposed to be excellent fertilizer.
I'm really mad, though, with this weather. My family bought me a lilac tree (my favorite) last Mother's Day and we planted it outside. It was just starting to get some buds this past week and then we got snow again early today and into the afternoon. I hope it doesn't kill it.

The warm weather today inspired me to trim much of the shrubbery around the yard and finally cut down the ornamental grasses that I should have cut in the Fall. The new grasses are starting to grow.

There's been a shooting a few blocks from my house. It apparently took place outside a medical office. The only casualty identified so far is a police dog. It happened at approximately5:30 PM when I was sipping Guinness at a St. Patrick's Day party hosted by a law firm in our office building, but the police are still stationed around the area. I'm going to have to get details from the 11:00 news.

Frightening, Klyd. We've become so desensitized to these shootings that nobody has even mentioned the shooting this week in Herkimer County, NY in which 4 people were killed.
This week we have finally talked my mother into moving into sheltered accomadation. She would still have her own flat(albeit smaller than the one she is in now) but it will be in a complex where there are people around and wardens to help. She turns 80 this year and has all sorts of complications with her health. Just lately she has been falling a lot and obviously this is no good. She has been adamant she does not want to go into a full blown old folks home, wants to retain a bit of independence,which is fair enough. Still very hard to deal with, she has always been difficult, God love her. Being an only son we have always clashed at times, she doesn't like me telling her what to do, so now i just advise her Hopefully this move will help....
Moving her in over the next two days. She is not happy with me because i had to throw out some of the clothes in her wardrobe from the '60's. The woman is the worst hoarder i have ever come across in all my days

yogi, best of luck is right. My mom lives with us and is approaching 87. We have reversed roles and I am more like the mother and she has become the child. It's very difficult, as she has become child-like in many ways.
Best of luck to you. My mom was getting very near that point before she passed away last year. Her mind was going and she couldn't get around well at all. The fact that she kept saying "I don't wanna go in a home" made it even more difficult. Luckily my brother stayed with her. She could have never been left alone though. It IS hard but it's probably the best thing to do.

I'm sure you all know that Jay Leno is stepping down as Tonight Show host and Jimmy Fallon is replacing him. I actually love Leno, but also like Letterman. I have never even seen Fallon's show all the way thru BUT just love how he seems to be able to imitate nearly every singer. He cracks me up and I think he'll do just fine as new host.
Btw, they'll be moving from Burbank back to NY. Oh, and what ever happened to Conan? I know he's on another network, but wonder why he wasn't offered the job.

Maybe that works for Gabrielle and her husband. There are dynamics within every relationship that often mystify me, and I would rather shoot myself than live my life that way, but if it works for them, and they're both happy, who are we to judge?? Although I think she's wrong to say that it should be that way for every woman, but perhaps she just wants to pass on what has made her marriage successful.
Marriage is a partnership. IMO, it can only work when the partners are equal and equally respected.
