That's the rumor, Strax.

It's one thing to quote the term, as you did above, but don't you use the N word yourself. You'll notice I edited it out, and it is not allowed here.

It's probably true that he said it, but he wouldn't do it today unless he was truly insane. The prison system is just much too different today.

John Gotti caught the beating of his life from a black inmate and literally had to turn to the Aryans for help. In Galante's day, the black guy probably would have been killed inside the prison within a matter of days.

Times change.

Galante was one of the biggest heroin dealers who ever lived, Frosty.

Vinny Teresa is the origin of this story. There was always prisoners standing in line to use the prison phone. Lilo never bothered to satnd in line, he just cut in whenever and wherever he felt like it.
Another thing Teresa tells us is that Lilo often acted as an uninvited arbitrator.
By coincidence, Lilo could walk up to two guys who would have an argument of some sort. The argument could had been based upon such trivial question of who was the righteous owner of a soap or a toothbrush! Lilo then listened to the both guys stories and immediately made out the ruling. "You are right, that guy is wrong." And that was the end of the argument. The two guys didn´t dare bring it up again since Lilo had finished it off.

I have heard about this story and i think its very possible it is true. Galante was a diagnosed psychopath who thought he was untouchable so i dont doubt it

Speaking of Galante's relationship with blacks...

From the book Bringing Down the Mob by Thomas A. Reppetto:

"Released in 1974, he returned to the drug business. It was Galante who is reputed to have invented the notorious "black man test." In order to determine the quality of a quantity of heroin, an African-American addict would be kidnapped and injected with a double bag; if he became comatose within a specific time, the narcotic was judged to be of the correct purity."

I'm still surprised gambino didn't have galante killed before he died considering he killed respected captains from other families just because they made some drunken remarks

hmm maybe, maybe not gotti had a similar incident with a black guy while he was in jail the guy ended up punching him. Soon after gotti put a 100k contract on the guy but prison authorities got wind of it and moved the guy to a safer part of the prison and the guy soon got out on parole

The times have changed since Galante was in prison. The blacks don't roll over to the wiseguys anymore. A lot of the change came about in the mid '60s along with the rise of the Black Muslims. Even out on the street, the Mob started to back off the path of the Muslims.

Lilo´s psychiatric report from 1931 (his age at that time was 20 or 21) can be found in the Vault (part 10 of 12):

"Neat in appearence, mental age of 14 and a half.
Dull emotionally, IQ of 90 (which is actually slightly above average, if I´m not mistaken).
Shy with strangers.
Diagnosed as neuropathic with psychopathic personality."

Lilo was released from prison in 1974 but put under the supervision of the US Board of Parole.
According to the documents he was constantly being watched by the feds during this time. He traveled to Florida several times and met with hoodlums in Texas.
If Lilo was engaged in heroin trafficking at that stage, he must have had worked out a perfect system to keep this under the feds radar. But there is nothing in the documents that suggests this. Lilo was under parole. So my humble opinion is that he kept himself out of this trade at that stage.
Of course, I could be very wrong. But keep in mind that it wasn´t until after the Lilo murder in 1979, that the heroin trade (what later became the Pizza Connection case) REALLY took off.

Interesting is Lilo´s participation (or how do you say it?...) in the funaral of Carlo Gambino, a man he intensly hated.
Various Mafia documentaries with footages from this funeral picks up Lilo standing talking to Tony Mirra (his bodyguard at the time). So when Lilo was put back into jail in 1977, it wasn´t because of heroin trafficking, it was because of him consorting with known criminals.

The heroin trade was in full swing during the 70s then the cocaine trade came in and then you had crack which overshadowed most other drugs during the late eighties and early 90s. During this time heroin started to make a comeback because it asian gangs started bringing in from southeast asia. Alot of the pizza connection people started getting arrested during the early 80s from investigations into them from the 70s when it was at its peak.

It wasnt actually american born mobsters that were trafficking heroin at the time it was mostly sicilians operating under different families for protection.

Doesn't look like a severe beating. One little cut on the forhead no broken Jaw, or nose, not even a black eye or fat lip. Looks more like a sucker punch than a sever beating. I read somewhere that the guy who punched Gotti got paroled soon after and ended up killing a cop so LE wished the hit Gotti put on the guy had gone through.

Looks can be deceiving.... from all accounts I've read, Gotti took a beating.

Because of the lightning, he doens't even look like Gotti. He does look like a thirty year old when Gotti was pushing 60.

You're right, its hard to tell by one pic with lighting like that. It does make him look much much younger with traps that rival Brock Lesners.. I know Gotti was a relatively big guy but his traps are deceivingly large in that pic.

Various Mafia documentaries with footages from this funeral picks up Lilo standing talking to Tony Mirra (his bodyguard at the time)

If I was a mob captain or self proclaimed boss as Galante was then I cant think of a better guy to have as my bodyguard! LOL

Does anyone have any links to footage of Galante and Mirra at the funeral?
Thanks

No, just some loner sociopath. Walter Johnson was his name. And, yes, he later killed a cop after he was released.

At exactly 0:19:47 into this documentary you will find Galante at the Gambino funeral. If I´m not mistaken, Tony Mirra (in dark glasses) is standing right behind him.

(Credit to NickyScarfo for finding this one.)

In other documentaries I have seen them two talk to eachother. I´ll see if I can find them.
