I've seen and heard several interviews and documentaries including a "Mob Scene" with George Anastasia in which Nicky "The Crow" Caramandi claims the reason he flipped was because he was informed by Long John Mortarano that Scarfo had put a hit on him because he was displeased with the outcome of the attempted Rouse shakedown and held The Crow responsible. My question is do you think Long John was lying and trying to bait The Crow to turn on Scarfo? Long John believed Scarfo the lawyer he recommended were at fault for his sons lengthy prison term, on account that the lawyer gave him bad advice to take a plea deal which resulted in his son receiving one of the longest sentence in American history for a non violent crime. I've always wondered how Long John would know if there was a hit on the Crow an if he knew why he would bother to warn Caramandi about it anyways? What do you all think?

Thank you for your time.

Great topic, I always thought Long John was lying.

Yah, IIRC Long John was not in the family administration so how would he even know if Scarfo put the contract on Caramandi? It's not as though when someone has to go the boss sends a memo to every member and tells them.

Its a interesting thing to consider that Long John could have lied and Scarfo wasn't mad at Nicky the Crow at all. However, after the Salvie testa thing I dont doubt that the paranoid Scarfo wanted him dead

I find it hard to believe that Long John would have known that. He might have been right but if he was, I doubt he knew it. He was probably trying to cause trouble. That being said, I find it totally believable that Scarfo turned on the Crow. That move was his M.O.

Well he did tolerate many things from the Crow in the past such as him passing out from being too drunk while talking to him, and said "he can fall down 100 times and I would pick him up 100 times" so I'm not sure he wanted the Crow dead.

A great question... I always thought Long John was lying as well. I think the Crow did things that Scarfo didn't like but I didn't see anything in Anastasia's book that would lead me to think that Scarfowanted one of his leading earners clipped - especially since he wasn't arrested or indicted on a charge that he might flip to reduce sentence.. Yet, the paranoia Scarfo had, anyone could have been a target if he saw fit...
