It's a great documentary overall and it gives a good general background info about the AFO. and the war between them and Sinaloa Cartel. Good stuff.

HermitKermit, have you perchance read a book called "The Black Hand" about a former high ranking member of the 'Mexican Mafia' aka La eMe?
It has a couple of interesting chapter about David Barron and another guy called Jose Alberto "Bat" Marquez...it says that the two of them eventually wanted to tax the AFO 50% of all their business and if they refused they would go to war with them.Of course we know what happened to Barron, and "Bat" was later arrested.I wonder if they could have pulled it off though...

I'm not even sure if La eMe has the manpower, resources or influence on the streets to go to war with the AFO. Most gangs in California or anywhere in the states are independents and form groups in prison for power even though they might be rivals in the outside world. I don't think La eMe direct soldiers in the outside except for some couple of gangs and from those only a small percentage will carry out the assassinations. But than again I am ignorant towards La eMe information.

I agree that La Eme does not have the manpower to go to war with the AFO. They do, however, have significant influence on the street. Most Surenos have to pay taxes to La Eme. When a Sureno goes to jail, he is indoctrinated. When he gets released he has to toe the line or his return to jail will be highly unpleasant.

Have a look at this post, and the whole blog for that matter, for interesting info:

Do you know a good documentary about the Sicilian mafia wars in Italy or anything similar to it?

I think "Cyclone" did kill the informant but he doesn't want to admit it for obvious reasons, man it would of sucked to be in his shoes. Also the state police officer that killed Ramon was in fact a police hit squad for the Sinaloa Cartel, the police officers fled Mexico but they now returned back this year.

I think just about any documentary having to do with the Sicilian Mafia (like the one below) will cover the wars. Or you could also look up key people like Salvatore Riina or Bernardo Provenzano.

i watched this on tv like a year ago, i still have it saved on my DVR. Its a great documentary. I also watched a really good one on the killing of Enrique "k*ke" Camarena, the DEA agent that was ordered to be kidnapped by Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo. Ernesto Fonseca Carrillo ended up being responsible for the kidnapping and they ended up torturing and killing him, it was a powerful documentary.

God Bless Kiki Camerena what a hero he was but the documentary is a bit outdated. The state police squad that killed Ramon were under the orders of the Sinaloa Cartel, there was a documentary it 6 months ago or so.
