Why exactly did Bonventre have to die? I see he rose as one of the fastest at age 28 becoming a Bonnano Capo. Dead at age 33 it was ordered by Massino but why it didn't have anything connected with Galante because if it was a trust issue about Bonventre turning on his boss and allowing him to get killed then Baldo Amato would have been killed as well. I waas thinking Massino might have felt threatened by Bonventre and his rise to stardom in the family.

I believe he was mainly killed as a retribution because he betrayed Galante. Sure, Massimo and co. organized Galante's killing. But if Cesare was capable of betraying a boss, he could have done it again. Therefore he was considered a liability. And they also probably thought of him to be an arrogant prick.

massino said during the basciano trials that bonventre had to go because he extorted 600,000 from a drugdealer wich was close to rastelli. and i read on wikipedia that massino said bonventre had to go because he was threat to the bonnano leadership.

The Bonanno Family have always killed over disrespect over structural reasons, at least since Rusty took over. According to Massino's new testimony, Bonventre was called on the carpet over that extortion job. And when he didn't like what he was hearing, he angrily stormed off. Massino said you can't do that to a boss. I'm sure the betrayal played a factor as well.

Thanks guys for the input. I didn't know Amato was related to Bonventre till I started reading a couple books on Massino it seems Amato wasn't a liabilty after killing his cousin Bonventre. Did Bonventre haveany close dealings with the so called sixth family (Rizzuto)isnt he considered a zip too?

yes he was a zip and for amato's case he didnt get killed according to massino he saved him by telling rastelli that he was just a soldier listening to his captain's(bonventre) orders and that he couldnt do anything about it.

and he probably was involved with the rizzuto's since bonventre should have taken part of the pizza connection trials if he didnt get killed. and the pizza connection also included drugdealing trough canada.

yeah when i read that massino said this during vinny's trial my first thought was Bonventre had balls to do that thats for sure.

more killings over disrespect:

little anthony seccafico soldier who was clipped in staten island a few years back for allegedly skimming money he was suppose to be delivering to a powerful soldier's family, smacking that soldiers son, and also getting fresh with some of the women on his drops.

Randy Pizzolo for running his mouth that he was the only "hitter/killer" in the family and for threatening to level the bronx (reference to basciano) was whacked out by vinny, he was also apparently running his mouth about participating in the hit on nick cirillo's son from the genovese and obcourse the bonannos didnt want that to be known

theres also frank santoro who was shotgunned by vinny himself in the bronx after threatening to kidnap one of his kids

Tommy Shots: They want me running the family, don't they know I have a young wife?
Sal Vitale: (laughs) Tommy, jump in, the water's fine.

what about gerlando sciascia he got killed for complaining about a capo on drugs. then massino order his death because he felt that he was attacking the leadership. "It served him right for telling me how to run the family." - joseph massino

"Little" Anthony Seccafico seems like an especially good example, DapperDon. After I read about him slapping round that made guy's son, then having the balls to flirt with a couple of the wives on his rounds...oh yeah.

By the way, congrats on the 1000 posts Dapper! Now I mention it, Im not too far...I think Vinny had the right idea, eh? A bottle of Cristal would be great thanks. lol

Seriously, someone should start a "Bring Back Vinny" petition. Id sign it. Compared to posters like that douch rosato, Vinny was freakin' Shakesphere.

Sure. The ten percent of his posts that weren't cutting someone down or making severely off colour jokes tongue

Seriously but, I mean at least Vinny was funny. And for all his bullshit jokes, at least once in a while the guy could learn you something. The guy led me to pretty much all I now know about the whole Tupac/Crips thing.

Really though, I know it's not my call. Still, I feel like having had to deal with a particularly peurile and stupid example, wll, like I said, at least Vinny was funny.

But back on topic...the Zip* Giovanni Ligammari (spl?) He ran in the same circles as Sciascia, Bonventre and Amato back in the day and lived through getting shot by (not so) friendly fire during a hit or something. Was involved in the Pizza Connection peripherally. And years later found with his son in a supposed double suicide (an actual father/son suicide is virtually unheard of)

*IIRC he is identified as such by Humphries and Lamoth in "Sixth Family", and as being part of Sciacia's crew and the Zip faction. There are pictures of him in attendance at the Angelo Bono wedding, that virtual "who's who" of the Bonanno Family heavies.

Where can I read in detail about Bonventre storming off not liking what he was hearing? Also do you guys thing Rastelli really had anything to do with the Bonventre hit? I believe, I read Vitale stated Rastelli ordered the hit this in DeStefano's book. But, I believe in the Five Families book it was stated Rastelli just wanted to live out his time a free man and had nothing to do with it.

I read late last night in DeStefano's book that Rastelli was getting tired of Bonventre's kidnapping schemes and this was a reason for him also being whacked. I guess, I have to do some really digging on this guy, I had no idea about kidnapping schemes....

"Massino, who is expected to face stiff cross-examination today about his assertion that Basciano ordered the 2004 murder of mob associate Randolph Pizzolo, stressed during his direct testimony that he was an all-powerful crime boss who had the power of life and death over wiseguys years before he took over the crime family in 1991.

He also explained the rationale behind another mob rubout: Disrespect. While he was on the lam in 1984 – ducking trial for the murders of three capos in 1981 – Massino said he learned from Rastelli’s brother and his own brother-in-law Salvatore Vitale, who was then a capo, that Rastelli was planning to whack Cesare Bonventre, a member of the family’s Sicilian faction who had extorted about $600,000 from a drug dealer who was close to Rastelli.

When Bonventre was called on the carpet about it by Rastelli, (right) not only did he deny the allegation, “he got insulted” by the inquiry and “got up and walked away,’ without so much as a polite good bye to his already steaming Mafia boss.

“You can’t do that with bosses,” said Massino. “That’s why he died.”

Rastelli also wanted to whack Bonventre’s long time buddy and partner in the crime and the insult, Baldo Amato – the duo played key roles in the 1979 rubout of wannabe Bonanno boss Carmine (Lilo) Galante – but Massino thought that was a bad idea, he testified.

“I saved him,” he said. “I sent word to the old man. I said, ‘Listen, he’s listening to his captain. We can’t just keep going on killing and killing and killing. He’s following orders just like I follow orders.’ He said, ‘You’re right,’ and he gave him a pass.”

Yesterday, prosecutors played tape recordings of jailhouse talks that Massino had with Vinny Gorgeous in January of 2005 – which Gang Land first disclosed that September – in which Basciano admits ordering a close associate to whack Pizzolo."
