could someone give me those transcripts from persico from the commission trials. it was mentioned in the new book mob rules. louis ferrante mentioned it and apparently one of the judges commented persico on his pro se courtroom performances and said that persico was one of the most intelligent people he ever saw.

and could someone name a few books to read about persico?

"Five Families" by Selwyn Raab has a bunch of info on Persico and the Colombo War, in particular Chapters 29 (Snake Charmer) and 30 (Carmine's War).

I guess Carmine had never heard the legal maxim "he who represents himself in court has a fool for a client". He obviously thought he could charm the jury enough to sway them, but shot himself in the foot with statements like the one made during the cross examination of Joe Cantalupo "You was angry because you got beat up, and you got beat up because you didn't pay back the money!"

LMAO

I want to know how or if Perisco is getting orders out to people on the street. I'm sure he's been a model prisoner and what not but with such a big status and high profile you'd think everything did would be monitored and scrutinized. I wonder if he has a say in things or just trusts that whoever the acting boss is is going to take care of his best interests and leaves it at that

The fact he hasnt been charged with anything since he's been locked up is kind of crazy too, with the aronwald "hit", the early 90s war, etc... they had no problem charging Vinny Basciano with an alledged murder when he was already serving life... you haven't heard a word about Persico in forever.

i really wonder how he does that to but massino said during the basciano trials that he used his daughter to send messages to the family.

Carmine Perisco survived many assassination attempts, including a car bombing and being shot in the face. Greg Scarpa was a mean, stone-cold killer. These are how they got such titles. I don't know if they were true nicknames or created by the media, though.

Sincerely, Sally

LOL, I find you funny, Rossato, because it’s always entertaining to see a jerk self-destruct. And that’s what you’re doing on here- purposely crashing and burning. I’ve learned that people this bitter and irrational in behavior suffer from intense self-hatred and chronic feelings of inadequacy. What is causing you to despise yourself so much? Are you (and/or your girlfriend) that unattractive physically? Can you not function sexually/are you sexually frustrated with others? Do you despise the fact that you are perhaps, for all intent and purposes, gay? Are you jealous of people because you feel they have it better in life than you? Let us know, Rossato, maybe we can help!

Sincerely, Sally

You're the one talking about it dude. Seems like you had THAT mental picture ready in your head a bit soon.

ANYWAY... the guy was capable enough in that world to be made in his mid 20's without being related to anybody high-up. No mean feat in New York LCN circles circa. late 1950's, early 60's.

Still Persico made some typically stupid mobster decisions, like taking bank-robber Michael Lloyd into confidence (and not to mention the "war") that ended him up where he is now and will be till he's dead. His own hubris.

Still, Ive always wondered at how Judge John Keenan was compelled to make the speech he did to Carmine during a sentencing once. The "You're a tragedy, Mr Persico" one.

reason i want to know about this guy is that he maintained his position even tough he has doing life and he was involved in 3 mob wars if im not wrong he survived something like 20 hits. 1 attempt would be enough to let a lot of made men spill their guts.

yeah he definitely made some horrible decisions, the worst of which IMO was trying to run shit from the can. I understand wanting to maybe not be left out to dry and have some income for his family but w so many blood realtives involved he'd always have that. Instead he put his son, jackie deross, people like that in there and their best earners/best soliders basically got killed off

well there are no perfect leaders but persico really screwed things up like you said: he put his family in charge and that didnt work for gotti either.

I've been reading Donnie Brasco again and I was amazed to read that Jilly Greca would be meeting with Carmine and his son to coordinate drug and loanshark deals with an early associate like Brasco and the fact that Persico would be chauffeured around in a Rolls Royce

I'm typing this a block from where Jilly & Carmine met while Donnie was in the car... There's still an Italian social club across the street too.

This should probably be another topic but seeing this thread makes me ask who was THEE WORST-- as in most destructive to his family-- boss?

Seems obvious it has to be between Carmine and Gotti, with Persico's longevity taking it. We can never know everything but it'd be interesting to compile as full as possible list as inter-Colombo hits...

People talk about the three Colombo wars but I suspect there's more than that if we dope it out more closely; I'm thinking especially of all the informants and suspected informants who got whacked and also those who might flip and testify at one of Carmine, Alphonse or Allie Boy's trials.

I just read Lin DeVecchio's book and Persico was getting info out through his brother Teddy and other visitors I believe. That was until the snake lost visitation priviliges when his female lawyer was seen perofrming oral sex on him.

Brasco didn't meet the snake with Jilly Greca. He met him with Tony Mirra.
