Shortly after finishing The Godfather trilogy, I said to my girlfriend (now wife) that I will never see a movie as good as The Godfather ever again -- and I fully expect this to be true.

But what I didn't expect is for there to be so few movies that have moved me as much as The Godfather has. I mean here it is, almost 10 years after I saw it and I'm still posting on message boards about it.

So what are some of the movies that have moved you like The Godfather and caused you to obsess over them endlessly, or on a lesser level to a certain extent?

Mine would have to be as follows:

Star Wars - Yes, the new trilogy pales in comparison to the original, but all movies are fun to watch because they all tie into one another -- and that's why I love The Godfather so much -- because there is such a deep wealth of detail and information to explore, years and years after watching it for the first time.

Back to the Future - I feel the same way about BTTF as I do about Star Wars. I love trilogies because there is a lot to digest and that makes repeat viewings that much more fun. This is lighter than Star Wars though, but just as much -- if not more -- fun.

Bram Stoker's Dracula - this is an odd choice, but I usually watch this movie once a year to remember how awesome a director FFC was, and how much we miss him today since he hardly directs anymore. This movie is a visual orgasm and I love every second of it. I also dug the love story aspect of it to. And the musical score rivals The Godfather's for the best musical score of all time, IMO.

Scarface - Al Pacino makes this movie and it's fun to see him play this role after playing such a reserved and conservative character in The Godfather films. It's also fun to watch this movie again and piece together different parts of the complex plot.

Three that I can think of offhand:

A NIGHT TO REMEMBER/TWELVE ANGRY MEN - either of which I could watch any time, any place.

SOPHIE'S CHOICE - which I really won't ever be able to watch again.

Apple

I would have to agree with DBCH's choices. Those are my all-time favorite trilogies: Godfather, Back to the Future, and Starwars. All of them I could watch again and again.

Speaking of trilogies, the first three 'Aliens' do it for me. Alien Resurrection is great for about three quarters of the movie, but the ending, with that half-human half-alien giant baby thing getting sucked out into space, is just too daft. Hilarious, though. What do others think?

Casablanca and Gone With the Wind, for sure. I can recite their lines almost as well as The Godfather.

Casablanca
Maltese Falcon
Diva, a 1980's French crime thriller. It is a very good film.

Big Trouble In Little China is a strange but good film (I think I am in a minority here) that is fun as well.

I'm not sure this is the right section for the topic, anyway....

Gone with the wind
Casablanca
Gilda
A streetcar named desire
Sunset Blv
Schindler's list
Apocalypse now
The remains of the day
Brokeback Mountain
Sabrina

I don't know if these movies can be considered as good as the GF trilogy (in fact I doubt some of them can...), but I love them for one reason or another as much as I love the trilogy.

I don't want realism. I want magic! Yes, yes, magic. I try to give that to people. I do misrepresent things. I don't tell the truth. I tell what ought to be truth (Blanche/A streetcar named desire)

Three movies come to mind immediately:

"Field of Dreams" - I STILL shed some tears at the end even though I've watched it over 50 times.

"Casablanca" - Simply the best romantic movie ever.

"The Green Mile" - I never tire of this "collection" of stories tying up in a neat bundle.

You were right about one thing. I have been watching. Couldn't help myself. Watching, waiting, holding my breath. But I'm no puppeteer Kevin, I don't make things happen. Doesn't work like that. Free will, it's like butterfly wings, one touch and it never gets off the ground. I only set the stage. You pull your own strings.

I'd have to say there are there are a few that I could rewatch like the GF movies..

Enemy At The Gates...purely because of the intensity of the movie and the scenes are amazing.

For Love Of The Game...Kevin Costner's clearing of the mechanism makes me want to go pitch.

Black Hawk Down...A story that had to be told.

I know it's not the same, but Office Space is just hilarious, I mean c'mon who doesn't have that kind of boss?

I forgot Casablanca. However, I have to say that The Godfather is in a class by itself just like Casablanca, GWTW, and a few others.

But I am in distress today. My VCR has conked out and GFI is stuck inside. Madonne! Hellllllllp!

A lot of you have mentioned ones on my list:

Casablanca
Maltese Falcon
12 Angry Men
Field of Dreams

Being a baseball fanatic - i'd drop everything to see movies like:

Eight Men Out
The Natural
The Babe
Pride of the Yankees

But there is one movie that no one has mentioned - and honestly i am surprised:

Citizen Kane

I think any other individual films can rival The Godfather as a trilogy, but here is my Top 5 of my "other" favorite films.

The Graduate: In all honesty, I love this film. It's so fun to watch and in addition, I love the Simon & Garfunkel music.

All the President's Men: Out of all the other "journalism" films, I think this is the best one. I've always found the Watergate scandal quite interesting.

Ordinary People: Technically, the "Worst Best Picture of All Time" is actually a family drama that recent cinema lacks. This film really moved me, and I can't believe I actually said that. Even though I'm a Raging Bull fan, I have to say I like Ordinary People is superiior to Raging Bull.

Back to the Future: I think I've seen this about a billion times and I have not yet really gotten tired of it. The other two are just disappointments and lacks the ingenius comical brilliance of the first one.

Gone with the Wind: This is just a great Civil War romantic epic. I think Scarlett O'Hara (Vivien Leigh) is one of the few immortal female characters in film history. She can level with Vito Corleone any day because she is also an unforgettable character.

I agree with the Graduate, the music almost makes that movie. Also, of course Casablanca is great.

Lawrence of Arabia
Taxi Driver
Rocky
