The Tanglewood Boys, the garfield Boys and others are recruitment gang for the mafia in ny, anyone know, others gangs used to recruitment by the Mafia, or other gangs composed by Italian-Americans even if not directly linked to mafia, that's just my curiosity.

There have been quite a few gangs that have sort of served as "farm teams" for the Mafia or otherwise connected in some way. The Tanglewood Boys, Bath Avenue Crew, New Sprinville Boys, etc.

Mods should mind their own business and leave poster's profile signatures alone.

Sonny, I was referring to the most recent gang, as the Tanglewood Boys

The Tanglewood Boys were spoilt little sons of mobsters they used their fathers reputation to get what they want.A more visious gang was the giannini crew run by Baldo Amato (one of carmine galantes bodyguard)

there arnt many "starter gangs" in NY what usaully happens is a young guy wanting to be in LCN has someone he knows already in the life (brother, father, uncle, cousin, friend etc)that can be from an associate all the way up to administration level. Then the young guy starts hanging around and kicking up to the guy whos already involved and then therefore starts belonging to that crew

I agree with Tiger. In south Philly, there are little kiddie streen corner "gangs" ..many Italian American kids that learn the basics by hangin in the streets but they normally have a family member or close friend like Tiger said if they get into the life.

But one group that helped the Mob in Philly and at times fought with the mob in Philly was the 10th and O crew or 10th and Oregon drug gang. But I guess I wouldn't call them a start up gang as they aren't all young but some have become part of the mob. They been around for close to 50 years off and on. Long John Martarno worked with them. They had leaders like Louie Turra and others. The Turras plotted to kill Merlino after Louie was severly beaten by Merlino soiliders for not paying street tax. So his father, Anthony Turra and there gang plotted to kill Merlino but in the end the younger Turra committed suidced in prision while awaiting trial. Later that year his father, Anthony Turra, while on trial for the Merlino attempted murder, was shot to death.

Nah not gangs. Just kids from different neighborhoods hanging on there corners. When I was a kid there were a ton of corner "gangs". 10th and O gang is still around somewhat. They are mainly Italian American but there are a few that are not but they aint kids. But there will always be an Italian-American population in South Philly and kids fighting over there corner. But I wouldn't use the word gang. But there are corners that are mainly Italian American kids. For me growing up it was 10th and Oregon, 18th and Johnson, 16th and Jackson, Packer park kids, etc. Then the Irish neighborhood are 2nd streeters. Irish families live down near two street. Philly, espeically south philly, are a bunch of different ethnic neighborhoods. Now the Italian Poplulation has gone down some and moved to south jersey and other suburbs but there are still strong holds. But now you have your other ethic asian gangs near 7th street and other places. Black gangs in certain areas. A lot of Mexicans have moved in as well.

johnstanfa ~ Mukremin is absolutely right. Racist statements such as what you posted above are a big no-no here on the boards. We are a worldwide community consisting of all races, religions, etc. and ugly stereotypical and racist remarks are not allowed here.

Because we hung on corners...we are punks? This dude Stanfa gotta go. Dude I know people who hung on corners there whole life and now have a great job, kids and nice houses. Nothing you said made any sense. They are rats...actually I have seen more rats come out the Philly LCN then I do 10th and Oregon. You are very stereotypical when it comes to South PHilly and obviously other cultures. Any why bring the mummers into this? Thats over a 100 year old tradition for south philly. The mummers are great. So I guess your gonna move to some farm and lock your kids up for the rest of your life. Listen, I have lived in South jersey and south philly, and theres not much of a difference so stop with your higher then all attitude cause its starting to piss me off now.

Do you have a problem with the warning I posted about racist statements? You changed the original statement and replaced it with the one quoted (above).

Consider this a final warning ..... don't make any racist statements here!

I know why John Stanfa is talking like he's talking. He's doing life!
