it seems that in the early to mid 90's there were a bunch of guys in there teens - 20's that were doing almost anything to get attention to the mob. But some the stuff they were doing was so hot and brought alot of heat .

I've also seen my own last name going by a few spelling alterations with other people who have it.

One of the many other reasons I love this forum, more Italian-American life talk.

I think all these variations (which I think are misspelled)stems actually from Garofalo. Or are there real italian surnames like Gorafola, Garafolo etc, etc.
Does anybody know this?

This happened with Canadian immigration too. Last year I learned my name "Casselli" was originally spelled with only one "S". No big deal but makes me curious if the misspelling of surnames was more common with Italains than with other nationalities.

Being from Ridgewood, I knew some of the Giannini Crew from elementary school. I never hung out with them but when you're the same age and go to school together you know each other.

There were several "gangs" in the Ridgewood area and they formed in late 1983. "Ridgewood", "Ridgewood Juniors", "Italian Playboys" and "Harman Boys" were the ones I remember.

In addition, there were two white trash gangs named "Madison Boys" and "The Madison Crew" that formed mainly for the purpose of breaking into stores and doing graffiti.

In 1984, Ridgewood Juniors were into break dancing and were really good because as we all know, behind blacks, Italians are the best dancers. At the same time, "Ridgewood" was into hanging out at "The Arena" on Fresh Pond and Metropolitan and some other places I don't remember.

Anthony Tabbita hung around Forest Ave with his little crew of the Nicolosi Brothers, some Yugos, and his nickname was "Gotti", while Ragusa and "Fabio" were on Fresh Pond. They all dropped out of school or got kicked out by 1987 or early 1988 and Fresh Pond was the center of their lives at that point.

People talked about them, and how their parents were mobbed up.

Being a guido was the "in" thing around working class Italian neighborhoods like Ridgewood and Middle Village. Having mob connections was not a bad thing. It kind of defined being an Italian-American in those neighborhoods, and it all coincided with the popularity of John Gotti, which IMO made things worse for young Italian males. They weren't seen as the bad guys until you had a problem with them.

So, Skinny Vinny, already you mentioned being from Ridgewood a few times. What elementary school did you go to? And you don't have to say what street you grew up on, but maybe you could say off what ave?

I knew a couple of Italian guys from Jersey back in the 80's. For the most part it was dark colored Fila or Adidas track suits with the sleeves pulled up to mid forearm. They had the "wife beater" or "Dago T's" (Chicagoese) and gold necklace with the Malocchio Pendant, Italian Horn, and the Hunch Back Gobbo... also a crucifix. Their hair was combed back with a "pompadour" and hair sprayed. They had very clean white Addidas or Fila low cut sneakers and a lot of them were in to weight lifting/body building. They would lift weights outside their garages in the sun to get tanned - this was before tanning beds & sprays, etc... Remember, this was the big steroids era as well. I almost forgot - they all had Camaros or Firebirds and kept them so clean it was insane! However, I'm not from Jersey so this is just what I saw/learned from them guys I knew. Maybe somebody from The Garden State can give you a better picture?

Well the 80's guido had the John Travolta perfect hair and still liked to dance a lot. They still went to clubs like Arena on Fresh Pond, or Paled's for under 18.

By 1990, you weren't a guido if you didn't own at least 5 Sergio Tacchini sweat suits. At about the same time, guidos were getting into the weightlifting look, probably because they were now big into selling steroids. Nowadays they seem to be a mix of the classic guido with a touch of wigga. Don't forget the mandatory NY Yankee logo in red white and green on the car.

If you ask me, the Russians in Rego Park and Brooklyn are the guidos in NY. They dress guido and drive the souped up white Lexus with tinted windows.

The world needs fashonistas like Cesare Bonventre.

Aren't a lot of these guys still wearing the Fila Velour tracksuits and Sergio Tacchini? The Sopranos depicted it as so. Is that Blow Out hair actually popular with anyone else but Pauly D? LOL

You beat me to the post, Skinny. I'm very embarrassed to admit that I had a Tacchini in every color blush. I'm a little bit older than you (I'm 52), but those tracksuits were popular with neighborhood guys of all ages. It always astonished me that a company that made tennis clothes became so popular with guys who were more likely to swing an ax handle than a tennis racket.

The silk tracksuits on "The Sopranos" were Genelli. Paulie wore several of them. They still sell them at Vito's Men's Shop in Pelham Bay for people who are living in the past. Unfortunately, I've owned a few of those, too lol.

The kids on Jersey Shore are jerkoffs. Every last one of them. Male and female. Watch something else, Nicky tongue.

LOL at bein' a guido. I live in Southern California, Orange County. I look Mexican (this being So Cal it's not surprising to be assumed Mexi and I've always identified with Mexican culture because of this, than and I love Mexican girls). My mom looks like Scarlett Johansson and my old man like an extra from American Me or background actor in True Lies. LOL! Well my old man looks like an older, Italian John Stamos or Armand Assante with very dark, brown eyes.

When I was an infant my mom was pushing me in a grocery cart at the local grocery store when an old New York retiree came up to hear and proclaimed, "Oh, my what a guido baby!". They story's always made me laugh. When I hit 9th grade I rocked faded blue jeans, or brown dickies, a wife beater (no one knows what the fuck a dago is in Cali) and an open track jacket. Barbell curls and Marlboro lights were my best friends. Yeah, I had a real bad guido phase. Often slicking back my thick curly hair that sure as hell no one did at my high school.

In Canada were called 'ginos'; just a tidbit of knowledge.

Oh, and my guido phase ended with the ending of 10th grade, you know when I discovered jogging and real fitness.

That's because people from NY are obsessed with race and ethnicity. It's all NYC's working class has. Especially in the boroughs. No matter how much of a loser in life one is, you can display a foreign flag and feel better about yourself and be part of a peer group where no one can deny you membership to.

I laugh at the people with the Yankees logo in red, white and green. It's a glaring example of the ethnicity obsessed NY mindset.

I wonder why Sciacca is in a county prison?

Frank Burgio? I remember him from Harman St as a little kid and I know he was a "Ridgewood Junior", but what actual crimes is he accused of taking part in?

Tabbita and Bartolotta must own pizzerias in Florida and I'd go to there businesses and try a slice. What else could they be doing for a living?

L'aroma del cafe is a cafe on Forest Ave in Ridgewood. The Tabbita family owned the entire block at one point. So I'm assuming this cafe has some connection to LCN. I go there sometimes and the coffee is excellent. During the week it's a bunch of middle-aged Italian men hanging out. Weekends you got Albanian kids with stupid haircuts and hand-me-down clothes.

"anymore"? I don't think Burgio ever was involved. There were many people who hung around Giannini Caffe who weren't involved in their crimes.

I wonder why Burgio is even listed with those other guys?

Why the hell would he think about me anymore? We were kids. I don't write things that are false, and anything I said in here was completely true. The kid beat me up left and right when we were kids. And so what?

And now you can double check yourself, ok. And before you think about fucking with me, don't.

Well when i made this thread it was because i saw him in an episode of unsolved mysteries so even though this was 15 years ago the first time i heard about him was on said date. And what r u talking about 3/4 of the thing are false??The only person here that gave us info other than what was written in the papers is carmela.I dont know either of them but i would bet my life she is saying the truth because she actually gave us locations and dates of these incidents. So if Paulie is a friend of yours u can tell him to post here if they allow that in a fedaral prison LOL

Please. He's another one. We're supposed to wonder who he's talking to and what the hell he's talking about. Like my signature says: the mother of idiots is always pregnant.

La madre degli idioti e' sempre incinta.
