Films you've seen.Mixing Crime/Mob genre with something else and whether they pulled it off or not?

"mob" + "comedy"

My Blue Heaven starring Steve Martin was funny, haven't seen it in a while but I remember renting it on vhs from Blockbuster and really enjoying it.

Mafia! starring Jay Mohr is maybe the worst film I've ever seen.An over the top parody of the GF and other mob films...just terrible

I absolutely love "Analyze This". It is one of my favorite movies. The mix of mob/comedy is perfect. No other Mob/Comedy comes close to matching the chemistry of Billy Crystal and Robert DeNiro! I can't forget Jelly - he is hilarious!

"Thriller".

Stephen King's adaptation of a gypsy curse is a pretty good transfer to the screen. A mobster plays an important part of the film.

I recommend this movie.

Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai, Jim Jarmusch's 1999 film, is a very cool blend of 'hip-hop', 'martial arts', 'silent hitman' and 'mafia film'.

I love "Midnight Run," with DeNiro and Charles Grodin. It's very much a road/buddy film, much like the old Crosby-Hope films, but it's also got a fair amount of mob life depicted. Dennis Farina was FANTASTIC as the Chicago/Vegas mob boss.

Also, "29th Street" is one of my favorites that mixes the genre. At times it's almost a holiday film about a blue collar Italian family from Brooklyn (Capra meets Scorsese?), but it's also loaded with mob life. Danny Aiello was stellar (in my opinion, his best role ever), and look out for a youngish Tony Sirico as a low level mob goon sent to collect money from Aiello.

One of my favorite feel-good movies.... I always say it's "Goodfellas" meets "It's a Wonderful Life".

Analyze This - absolute genius of a film all around given it's blend of comedy with the mob genre. It's sequel - vulgar, cheap, overacted, and unfunny - a waste of film and talent.

I just read Pat Cooper's autobiography. There are some interesting tidbits on the casting of "Analyze This" in it.

I've always enjoyed Cooper's stand-up comedy, but as a person it's easy to see he's quite obnoxious, which made the book a bit hard to take. Still, if you love all things Italian-American, it's worth reading (but not buying).

Raging Bull is a good one. A lot of the film's storyline is shaped by the mob. Joey is the brother to Jake, the protagonist. Joey is always trying to get in with the mobsters, Jake treats them coldly. It reflects on the two characters. And we get to witness the first Joe Pesci vs. Frank Vincent beatdown.

But you've all probably seen this movie. Honestly though, it's not one of my favorite Scorcese films. Taxi Driver and Goodfellas were two of the greatest movies of all time, because they can be interpreted on so many levels. Raging Bull was a good story, but you can understand it all after one viewing.

And can anyone vouch for Mean Streets? I can't find a copy.

An awful film, so far beneath the great Peter Falk, it's mind boggling that he took the role.

What made "Swingers" so good was its low budget, independent feel, and its cast of unknowns. I guess Vaughn and Favreau figured they'd "Go Hollywood" with "Made," and the film sucked.

They've since redeemed themselves: Favreau will become a gazillionaire through the "Iron Man" franchise, and Vaughn will play puerile man-children until he's 70. In short, they'll play to their strengths, and they'll both be better off for it.

I won't even bother picking on P. Diddy because he was really a non-actor at the time.

Snatch! The character Brick Top combines classic East End London Gangster stereotypes and has an absolutely hilarious view on all things gangland.

Lock stock is also another great example
