I'm surprised this hasn't been started already.

Obviously I'm out of my mind excited about the Giants being in the playoffs for the first time since 2003. I've suffered through some bad years. I can honestly say this is the most lovable Giants team I've ever watched, making it the most exciting postseason in my life time. Every game is like watching a 12 year old little league game with them jumping off the walls in celebration every time anything good happens. I have to give Bruce Bochy a lot of credit for that.

My only concern is that it's a team of youngsters and misfit toys. Almost no playoff experience, so I'm very curious to see how they do under pressure. The upside is that the core group here will be around for years to come so that's exciting to think about as well.

I'm being a homer of course, but I want to hear everyone's thoughts on the baseball playoffs, the best postseason in sports in my opinion (mainly because only 8 teams make it, as opposed to 16 in basketball and hockey, and 12 in football so you get the best competing).

Holy shit! A no-hitter for Roy Halladay today!

The first post season no-no since Don Larsen's perfect game.

No one is beating this Phillies team (as much as I hate them tongue grin ).

Phillies are especially tough this season. Rollins, Madsen, Howard, Utley, Victorino, Ruiz and Lidge missed extended periods of the year due to injury, and they still ended with the best record in baseball. Halladay, Oswalt and Hamels give them the best starting trio in the game, and the lineup is playoff seasoned and in their prime.

I like the FGiants, Blibble, and think they can make a legitimate series run. My picks in the first round were Rays and Yankees, and Phillies and Giants.

By the way, I passed up an opportunity to go to see the Phillies today. Could have seen a postseason no hitter. Story of my life.

Hahahaha. My brother-in-law got hold of some tickets, and called me Monday night. I had a prior commitment with my daughter after school that wouldn't have given me enough time to get to Philly during rush hour on the Schuylkill.

I saw them in spring training and even then they looked awesome. Not commenting about Rays.

As the Yankee banner is raised the PA system belts out the anthem of champions:
Weeeeeeeee are the champions my frieeeend,
And Weeeeee'll keep on fighting 'til the end.
Weeee are the champions, weeee are the champions.
No time for looooooosers (insert Rays here) 'cause weeeeee
are the champions! of the WORLD.

Worry not, SB, I'm sure the mere sight of the Yankees will send them into a state of trepidation. After all, the Yankees have knocked Texas out of all three of their postseason appearances.

Still, after 50 years of existence it'd be nice to see them finally win a postseason series.

I think Texas is fairly unbeatable this year. Of course, I also thought that about the Rays. whistle

Congrats, klydon.

Not that I doubted the Phils would win, but I didn't expect them to be as dominant as they were.

Blib, if your Giants make it, and I hope they do, they're gonna have an almost impossible task of beating Philadelphia.

Thanks, SC. While I think the Phillies should be favored, I wouldn't quite call it "an almost impossible task" for SF to win.

Right now the Giants are a few outs from advancing to the LCS, which would mean a Lincecum/Halladay Game 1, whichis as good a postseason pitching matchup as I've seen. I may just have to shell out scalper prices to see that game.

Congrats Blib... the Giants win.

OK... klydon and Blib go to separate corners. No low blows, no dirty fighting. Break on the clinch and come out swinging.

lol Blibble and I officially suspend our friendship until the pennant is decided. Congratulations, Blibble. I look forward to an exciting series. While Scott Rolen was crucified by Philly fans last series, you'll see a very warm reception for Aaron Rowand, whose hustle every night was appreciated.

It was bittersweet to see Bobby Cox bid a final farewell after the game. This season may have been his best as a manager.

Unlike everyone else, I don't like jinxing my team. tongue wink

But congrats, Blib... Wilson's save wasn't pretty by any stretch, but it was classy of the team to take a moment to acknowledge Bobby Cox. cool

Ditto on the nice move by the Giants for Bobby Cox - that was sweet. I rooted for the Giants for Blib, and because Astros fans aren't really supposed to love the Braves, but all those shots of Bobby towards the end of course made me feel for him. Can you imagine? Sitting in that dugout and realizing that it's the very last game? I know they gotta let go at some point - or otherwise continue coming out of retirement, as some athletes have chosen to do...haha - but that's gotta be tough.

I don't want to be part of the GBB Giants/Phillies feud, but I would love to see Oswalt do well. lol

Welcome to Giants baseball. The team announcers started an unofficial slogan early in the year that has really caught on with fans. "Giants baseball... TORTURE." The team has made an art form out of winning nail biters. We're all going to die a little younger thanks to this season.

I understand your reason there, but consider our friendship suspended as well lol

Honestly, I don't think the Giants can beat the Phillies, but I can't say it's impossible. The Giants pitching staff has been one of the best in baseball, for the past 50+ years, during the last month of the season. If they get good starts and the bullpen doesn't fall apart, it could be a very interesting series.

Klyd, I'd be so jealous if you got to go to the first game. That is definitely one of the great pitching matchups.

Well I'll have to swallow har and root for my fellow A.L. East wild card team. Not so much because I want to but because The Texas Rangers in the world series is an infamnia.

I gotta go with the Giants. My Dad was a rabid New York Giants fan as a kid, having grown up in East Harlem, almost within walking distance of the old Polo Grounds. To this day when he talks about Willie Mays and guys like Johnny Antonelli, Monte Irvin and, of course, Bobby Thomson, the man actually gets more than nostalgic, he gets emotional.

It broke his heart when they moved out to California back in '57. My Dad was 28 at the time. Imagine being 28, rooting for a team for your entire childhood and into adult life, and then they abandon you? Dodgers fans can relate. He became a Mets fan in '62 (dragging me along for the ride lol), yet gradually forgave the Giants in the days of Willie McCovey and Orlando Cepeda, so he continued to root for the Giants as his "second favorite team."

Then Barry Bonds came along.

What can I say? He's an old man and set in his ways. He absolutely loathed Bonds and refused to watch them after the steroid scandal (but more over Bonds piss poor attitude). Anyway, he's rooting for them big time now, so I gotta be the good son and root right along with him.

I heard a classy thing today that just happened in sports. Refreshingly, it was not a story about a player sending texts of his junk, a fight in a strip club, drunk driving, or a player attacking a drunk girl in a restroom of a bar.

It was the Texas Rangers celebrating their win by spraying Ginger Ale, instead of the champagne. As most everyone knows, their All-Star Josh Hamilton, is a recovering alcoholic and drug addict. They wanted to show their support for Josh and to help him avoid being tempted, hence the Ginger Ale.
