I'm looking for LeBron to go to Chicago.
Wade to stay in Miami and Bosh to go to NY.

Former Pistons great Isiah Thomas said one of Detroit's most infamous sports moments should not have occurred.

Thomas told the Chicago Tribune he shouldn't have led the Pistons in their "walk-off" against the Chicago Bulls in the final seconds of the 1991 Eastern Conference finals.

The Bulls defeated the Pistons in four games and the Pistons eschewed the traditional postgame handshakes and words of congratulations.

"We basically passed the torch to Chicago the way the torch had been passed to us by Boston," Thomas told the Tribune. "Now, looking back on that ... we and I ... we should have shook hands. That was the sportsmanlike thing to do."

Thomas' Pistons were two-time defending NBA champions and on the verge of getting swept by Michael Jordan and the Bulls, after eliminating them three straight years in the postseason. In a rivalry marred with bad blood, the Pistons, led by Thomas and Bill Laimbeer, walked off the court and into The Palace tunnel with eight seconds remaining in the game. They walked past the Bulls bench, without an acknowledgement. It signaled the end of the Pistons' championship run and only Joe Dumars, Vinnie Johnson and John Salley remained to shake hands with the Bulls players.

"At that time, sportsmanship and all that wasn't a big thing in the NBA," Thomas said. "Not saying that we were right; I am definitely saying that we were wrong. The example that should have been set, and the example you want to send to your young kids and everything else is, you know, when you lose, shake the other guy's hand."

Thomas is now head coach at Florida International.

Hey, we'll be back. tongue The signing of Darko makes it more likely Jefferson will be moved. Perhaps we can get rid of Maxiell and Wilcox and Rip for Jefferson???

Amar’e Stoudemire and the New York Knicks are making progress in talks on a five-year maximum guaranteed contract and a deal could be completed as soon as Friday, league sources told Y! Sports.

The framework of a deal is in place and the two sides are expected to talk again soon, sources said.

Stoudemire’s departure from the Suns was all but clinched after the Phoenix Suns reached agreement with forward Hakim Warrick(notes) on a four-year, $18 million contract , league sources said.

The Suns moved forward with Warrick after negotiations with Stoudemire stalled. Stoudemire’s agent Happy Walters had a late-night conversation Thursday with Suns owner Robert Sarver, who insisted he couldn’t wait any longer on Stoudemire’s decision and would need to consider other options. Stoudemire was not ready to commit, sources said, because he wanted to see how the rest of the free-agent market played out and he believed he could get a better offer from the Knicks or another team.

The New Jersey Nets are interested in hiring Joe Dumars for the job of team president, a source close to the situation told the Free Press this morning.

In an e-mail, Dumars — the Pistons’ president of basketball operations — denied a report that he interviewed with the Nets over the weekend.

However, while there may not have been formal conversations, the source confirmed that the Nets are interested in Dumars, who took over the Pistons in 2000.

The Bergen (N.J.) Record, citing league sources, reported Sunday night that Dumars interviewed with the Nets on Saturday night to replace outgoing Nets president Rod Thorn.

The Record reported that Thorn, who has resigned effective July 15, and new coach Avery Johnson were in the meeting with Dumars.

Oklahoma City Thunder general manager Sam Presti and New Orleans Hornets GM Jeff Bower are also candidates for the position, according to the Record.

Dumars, a Hall of Fame player for the Pistons (1985-99), led the franchise to the 2004 NBA title as team president.

But the Pistons' near future is suddenly uncertain. Owner Karen Davidson said June 24 that she expects the team to be sold by the start of next season.

Check back with Freep.com for more updates on this developing story.

So apparently Stoudemire has officially agreed (verbally) to join the Knicks. Does this leave them enough money to get LeBron? If it does it is smart to get someone like him to prove they want good players around LeBron if he were to go to New York.

Does it? I mean Amar'e and that former coach of his from Phoenix, despite allegedly burying the hatchett, will go to blows very soon inevitably and Knicks will fire him quicker than dump him and his new albatross contract. Nevermind that whole organization is so degeneratively fucked on every level.

Thing is, this is all up to Lebron's ego. Is he willing to share title glory with Wade in Wade's town, choke some of his Nike-pushed self-importance?

Remember earlier this decade when after winning 3 titles in a row, 4 trips to NBA Finals in 5 years, Kobe Bryant's ego demanded that the Lakers to either side with him or Shaq? Same ego which also pissed off Phil Jackson enough to retire (again) and Lakers sided with him.

After a lackluster humiliating year in 04-05, Bryant publicly swallowed his pride and got Phil back. Even after Phil wrote that book which really shat on Kobe rather badly. Kobe had to accept that KOBE can't do it all, but he can be the spearpoint of an army of excellent players surrounding him. That meant having to share the spotlight with a Lamar Odom or that Gasol guy, get Derek Fisher back, or even acquire eggshell-walking headcase like Ron Artest.

Now they've now won the last 2 titles, been to the finals last 3 seasons, and probably will repeat again.

Unless Lebron's ego is willing to share. In Miami or Chicago.

Yes they still have enough money. They only had 5 players under contract. If LeBron doesn't go to NY now, Stoudemire is going to be under the microscope like never before.

the knicks got scared because they knew lebron wasn't going to that lackluster roster, and they believe that stoudmire makes this a better roster than chicago or new jersey? as of right now though its 50-50 on lebron staying in cleveland because of the 'guilt' trip. then again lebron might be forced into staying if wade/bosh decides chicago.

The money paid by the clubs is all pretty much the same, yes? Cleveland can pay LeBron slightly more but the other teams are more or less constricted by this max salary stuff. So I think part of NY's schtick was that being in the Big Apple would give Lebron more marketing/entertainment opportunities.

I'm not overly impressed with Bosh. I'm not sure he can be a difference maker.

Lebron has a press conference Thursday at 9EST.

Sounds like something Brett Favre would do. Ugh.

As far as titles go, Chicago is his best choice. They have a nice young core of guys and they would be an instant contender.

Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh will team up in Miami to form the core of a team that could contend for a title.

It has looked like things were leaning that way for several days, and now ESPN's Chris Broussard and Shelly Smith both are hearing the announcement will come later today (both getting it from separate sources). They are expected to announce their intentions today and can sign the deal as soon as tomorrow.

ill wait till its official, this is the same guy yesterday that said bosh was going to be traded to cleveland. if it is offical, then this may help the bulls chances because why would lebron stay with a lackluster team with boston, orlando, miami, and chicago becoming big.

Here’s a sampling of reaction from the Web world:

Frank Isola, New York Daily News: “James’ self-importance reached new levels of absurdity Tuesday night when ESPN confirmed that the NBA’s top free agent will announce his future plans in an hour-long special.”

Michael Ozanian, Forbes: “If this goes down it will confirm three things: There is no longer any difference between reality television programming and professional sports; ESPN has become a parody of itself; the game has become less relevant than its star players.”

Jim Litke, Associated Press: “This much attention for a guy who has yet to win a championship — let alone a game in the finals — is wrong on so many levels that it's hard to know where to begin.”

Kurt Helin, NBC Sports: “It seems impossible — and even more egomaniacal — to have Cleveland learn if its heart is broken on national television. Same with the other cities that will feel shunned if and when James turns his attention to whatever city he chooses. This all has the potential to be a public relations disaster for James.”

Tony Massarotti, Boston Globe: “Like Brett Favre, James effectively owns ESPN anyway. At least now we know there is a formal business agreement between the world’s most self-indulgent network and its most self-absorbed star.”

Mark Bradley, Atlanta Journal Constitution: “ESPN the TV network is apparently putting LeBron James on its air without ESPN’s many and distinguished reporters knowing what he’ll say, which is really the only free-agency story worth breaking…. Apparently the Worldwide Leader is content to be his silent partner/enabler. And I say: Good grief.”

Associated Press
Oklahoma City -- Kevin Durant has reached a deal on a five-year contract extension with the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Associated Press is reporting.

The team did not immediately confirm the deal. The reigning NBA scoring leader is signed with the Thunder through next season under his original rookie contract, which would pay him about $5 million next year.

Lebron will be hated in every city that wooed him, due to this ABSURD press conference.

Is this the brainchild of Team Lebron? You know, those guys who truly believe they're a success story because they all grew up together, and not because Lebron James can get the ball to go in the hoop?

Because if Lebron couldn't score, the closest they'd get to Quick Loans Arena would be, well, taking out payday loans themselves.

Bottom feeding hangers-on.

if lebron is not coming to chicago, then i hope he stays in cleveland or even new york/ney jersey. miami is going to be the most hated team in the nba with two biggest ego's (well three counting pat riley).
