Hey Quesition..During Connies wedding, while the Don is "not refusing any request on his daughters wedding day" why does act the way he dose when Luca Brasi wants to see him. Remember...

TOM
He's not on the list, but Luca Brasi wants to see you
VITO CORLEONE
Is this -- Is this necessary?
TOM
He didn't expect to be invited to the wedding, so he wanted to thank you..
Whats up with that I thought they were good friends...

maybe he want to enjoy his daughter´s wedding for a while and only want to see important isuess that day, maybe thats the reason he ask tom "is this necessary".

Maybe because Luca reminded him of the worst aspects of his profession -- murder -- and he'd have just as soon taken a day off from such unpleassantness on his daughter's wedding day.

I agree.I'd imagine Don Corleone probably thought Brasi had some 'buisness' agenda. Luca brasi wasn't the type of person who associated himself with the immediate Corleone family and so him requesting to see the Don (even though this wasn't the case) usually ment business.

Don Vito Corleone would have like to enjoy his daughter's wedding day rather than attend to business. Also maybe Don Corleone wanted to take cautions since FBI men were right outside and he didn't want to be seen talking to Brasi.

Actually Luca Brasi was the only person who made Don Vito feel uneasy. It was not that the Don was afraid of him, but Don Vito knew that the only time that he actually meet in private with Luca was for serious family business. The Don knew what Luca Brasi was capable of doing. Luca was the Don's most valued asset because of his treachery and loyalty to Vito, and the Don knew this. If you also remember, Luca was very nervous before meeting the Don, he is seen in the yard practicing what he would be saying when he did go in to see Vito. He was so nervous that when he did finally meet Vito in the office, he screws up his greeting to Vito. Luca and Vito needed each other and respected each other, but both knew how treacherous the other could be and that is why they were a bit uneasy when speaking of things other than business. The Book explains exactly what you are asking much better.

That was what I was thinking as I read this thread. Luca is a real piece of sh1t. Mobsters are no saints, for sure, but Luca was despicable. Anyone who has read the book is assured of this. The less of him in the movie, the better as far as I'm concerned. You could even see Don Corleone didn't want to concern himself with him.

Not to hijack the thread, but there are a lot of things in the book that the movie doesn't quite make 100% clear. Lucy Mancini's "accomodation" for Sonny's... err... manhood... the damage to Michael done by McCluskey, which went long untreated... Luca and his legendary bastard-ness... other stuff, too. Som of these things had allusions, but weren't right smack in your face.

Nick

Luca was the only man around him that the Don couldn't completely control. The novel says that Luca is "like a natural force--like lightning." Later, Michael asks why the Don chose to be associated with Luca, and the Don replies at length, in effect saying that a completely crazy person can be put to good use if a way is found to harness his crazyness.

Luca Brasi was despicable. But I also wanted to see more of him. He added tension in the scenes he was in. You never took your eyes off him when he was involved in doing work for Vito Corleone. His menacing presence was fascinating to watch.
