I believe that The Sopranos is one of the best dramas to ever be on television. I own all six seasons on dvd and every weekend I am at home I put on this amazing drama. James Gandolfini is briliant as the mob boss who suffers with anxiety attacks and depression and is trying to survive in the modern day Mafia as well as dealing with his immediate family. Michael Imperioli is fantastic as Christopher Moltisanti, a young gangster who you wouldn't want to cross and this actor which I first saw in GoodFellas is another reasons why I enjoy this drama so much. To this day I still wonder what the very last episode of The Sopranos was trying to say. As anybody got any opinions?

There's a thread where the last episode is discussed extensively. I don't think it was saying anything. It was what it was.

I agree. So Many Physchological aspects that if u didnt really follow the show u missed alot.I watched every episode numerous times and many times i caught something i didnt realize before or got premonitions on what might happen next.
I wish they would come out with a movie starting in the Restaraunt where it ended.Did Tony get whacked? Will we ever know?LOL.
Sopranos just wasnt another shoot em up Mafia Program.
I was a "UNDERBOSS" on a site that was Featured on a Sopranos documentary during the series heyday.I wasnt mentioned{LOL} but the site i was very serious about at the time was.

After the 2nd season it turned into a soap opera and it went down hill.

I woke up this morning with nothing to do and went to bed with only half of it done.

If only soap operas were as rich, evocative or pressing in moral, intellectual and artistic urgency...

Even if it went downhill, it was still the greatest program on.

I don't actually think it did go downhill, at any point.

I agree. Some seasons were better than others, but none were poor. The show never "jumped the shark," so to speak.

I agree it never went downhill. If it was still on the air today it may have, but all the seasons are solid.

Some think the show lost something after the first two seasons. This might be due to the fact that it was no longer new and fresh, as well as the loss of Nancy Marchand, who of course played Livia - Tony's mother.

Personally, while even the most die hard Sopranos fan (including myself) can nitpick any number of problems from beginning to end, I think seasons 1-5 were solid.

But I can't say the same for Season 6, parts I and II. It should be remembered that Chase only planned on there being four seasons to begin with. Money talked and a 5th one was done. But after that I think the writers were running low on strong material. In hindsight, I don't think they had enough for 21 more episodes, which parts I and II consisted of. They basically just treaded water, without things generally being moved forward, until the end when things suddenly sped up with the NY/NJ war.

I would have much preferred that they do just a regular 13 episode 6th season. Everything was set up for that at the end of season 5 and there would have been just enough material and plot to wind things up strongly rather than drag things out just to make more money.

All that said, even on it's worst day The Sopranos was head and shoulders above 99% of anything else on TV. And over all is the single greatest TV drama of all time.

I disagree with the points about Season 6 pt I & II. I think both were the icing on the cake. From the very beginning, of part II at least, you can just sense impending doom. There is a darkness that hangs over it all.

Maybe that's because you knew it was coming anyway.

My point was, impending doom was already hanging over everything in season 5 and it was all set up perfectly for the final season. I would have rather them deliver a regular 13 episode 6th season that was concise and evenly spread out rather than just sort of tread water with plot lines that really didn't go anywhere and then suddenly get around to quickly wrapping things up in the last few episodes.

Season 6A seems to take a 'step back' after the action of Season Five - introduction of major characters, Adriana's death, etc. - and ask where the series itself is headed. It's full of self-reflexive ideas: the Kevin Finnerty dreams and Tony's existential dilemmas; questions of faith upon his recovery; Paulie's whole life suddenly in question after the revelation of Nucci Gualtieri; the whole meta-narrative of Cleaver; the celebrity cameos and their affect on our viewing of the show; and the most significant plot, Vito's outing, and how, alongside all these other reflexive aspects, it faces its audience directly.

Season 6B, after such contemplation, gets back on with the 'action', and does so with a vengeance: it's a fast finale and not one of its episodes are short of excellent.

Over the last few nights, I re-watched Season 1. I forgot how well written the early seasons were.

Over the years I've seen few episodes or fragments. I wasn't never really that interested and I now I really wonder why...

But since I recently have all the seasons I'm ADDICTED. I watch 2-3 episodes on a daily basis now. This serie is so good I can say with confidence this is The Godfather of series.

The acting is for the most part as realistic as it can be and the story writing is magnificant. There are hardly any episodes that disappoint me and for a serie that has such a long run that really is an accomplicement.

As I write this post I'm in the beginning of season 4 and I still can't get enough of it. Going to watch another episode with a cappuccino. smile

It just dawned on me that it's been 4 years since the Sopranos finale. God, how much time and words we devoted to it during its tenure. How time flies.
