has there ever been an organized crime movie, where you feel that the actors or actresses were miscast?

one for me, was the 1991 movie Mobsters.... but even though it wasnt historically accurate, i love that movie

because its violently graphic and full of action.

but everytime i see it, i feel some actors and characters were miscast.... they cast Richard Grieco as Ben Siegel,

and Costas Mandylor as Frank Costello.
but in my opinion, Mandylor's face looked way more like Siegel, than Grieco did. and Grieco looked more like

Costello than Mandylor.... im sure it was because Grieco was a more known actor, than Mandylor at the time.
i thought that Patrick Dempsey and Christian Slater's roles were cast well....even though in this movie, Lansky was

taller than Luciano but then again,
they were up against Salvatore "Faranzano" not "Maranzano"....so i guess anythin goes in this movie...haha. but i do

think that F. Murray Abraham, played the best Arnold Rothsetin on film to date.
but anyway, "long story boring", if they had fixed this it wouldve been an even better movie.

now if i made a movie or movies, below are the actors that i would choose for each role. note all these characters

arent in the same movie, they are just the actors next to the character that i would choose for them. below is a

list of older era actors, and more modern day actors.

Back In The Day Actors for roles, all these actors would be in thier youth:

Paul Newman (hair dyed dark brown/black) - Benjamin Siegel/Bugsy

Angelo Infanti - Salvatore Lucania/Lucky Luciano

(cant think of anyone) - Meyer Lansky/The Little Man

Norman Fell - Louis Buchalter/Louis Lepke

Elliot Gould - Abraham Reles/Kid Twist

Tyrone Power - John "Jack" Diamond/Legs

William Frawley - Jacob Shapiro/Gurrah

(cant think of anyone) - Arnold Rothstein/the Brain

Jack Klugman - Francesco Castiglia/Frank Costello

Abe Vigoda - Vito Genovese/Don Vitone

Walter Matthau - Joseph Valachi/Joe Cargo

i cant think of many names, for the old school actors to match. thats why some are missing above.

Modern Day Actors for the roles:

Costas Mandylor - Benjamin Siegel/Bugsy

Mark Wahlberg - Salvatore Lucania/Lucky Luciano

David Vadim - Meyer Lansky/The Little Man

Johnny Depp - Louis Buchalter/Louis Lepke

Joaquin Phoenix - Abraham Reles/Kid Twist

Christian Bale - John "Jack" Diamond/Legs

Wil Wheaton - Jacob Orgen/Little Augie

Brad Pitt (with weight gain) - Jacob Shapiro/Gurrah

Kevin Spacey - Arnold Rothstein/the Brain

Tom Sizemore - Francesco Castiglia/Frank Costello

Tobey Maguire - Arthur Flegenheimer/Dutch Schultz

Benicio Del Toro - Vito Genovese/Don Vitone

Casey Siemaszko - Meyer Cohen/Mickey

Gary Oldman - Owney Madden/The Killer

Adrien Brody - Abner Zwillman/Longy

Leonardo DiCaprio - Vincent Coll/Mad Dog

Ben Affleck - Harry Strauss/Pittsburgh Phil

Philip Seymour Hoffman (hair dyed black) -Meyer "Martin" Goldstein/Buggsy

George Clooney (with a little weight gain) - Umberto Anastasio/Albert Anastasia

Dylan McDermott (slight weight gain) - Giuseppe Doto/Joe Adonis

James Gandolfini - Giuseppe "Joe" Masseria/The Boss

Tom Hanks - Salvatore Maranzano/Caesar

William Forsythe - Alphonse "Al" Capone/Scarface

that should be more than a few for now.....

Which actors/actresses would you pick, If you could make an Organized Crime Movie?

If they ever make a DeMeo crew movie -

Frank Vincent (he played Billy Batts in Goddfella's) would make a good Joseph "Dracula" Guglielmo.

William Forsythe as Roy.

Robert De Niro (the mans a living legend) as Nino Gaggi

Don't forget that Ben Kingsley made a superb Lansky in "Bugsy." And Warren Beatty was brilliant in the title role.

A zillion actors have played Capone or a Capone-like character. Far and away the best was Rod Steiger. IMO, it was his greatest role.

I think that Ben Kingsley would play a great Carmine Galante!

They should make a picture of mob boss Vincent "The Chin" Gigante, played by Chazz Palminteri as they look a lot like each other.

Richard Dreyfuss played Lansky in an HBO film..

never saw it but since it's not ringing bells on this board it must not have been memorable....

the best lansky was "hyman roth" in GF 2..

Richard Dreyfuss did okay, but not really looked the part. Ben Kingsley was better, but a little bit annoying cause of his forced Jewish accent (which he also used for other movies in which he played a jew), while the real Lansky spoke clearly 'American'.
