i always wondered why the Don sent Luca to talk to sollozzo.. i know that vito could trust him because of his loyalty but thats just the thing he is known for his loyalty to the don and that he would rather kill himself than betray him.. vito just had a meeting with sollozzo about becoming partners and than here comes the corleon's best assasin saying he doesnt trust the family... i think vito sent him to his death because he knew that a hit would be taken on his life and luca would have made more problems looking for revenge for his sons if he died and put them in harms way knowing that he is the only one able to stop luca from blowing up the world... what do you think?

I don't understand this. Trusting which family?

Basically, I don't think there's any basis for your speculation. As has been stated in other threads regarding this subject, this was part of Vito's slippin'. Probably even the grandkids of the five families' Dons knew of Luca's legendary loyalty to Vito. So, there's no way that Sollozzo was going to believe that Luca was dissatisfied with the Corleones. Even if Sollozzo did believe that, he couldn't take a chance that he was right. He had to dispose of Luca - it was an offer he couldn't refuse.

Yea I agree with Olivant and I think that to believe that Vito did this because Luca would cause problems for his sons is overthinking the room. If Vito expected a hit on his life it seems that, though he was slipping as far as being on top of everything,he still would have been wise enough to knockoff the other dons before allowing his life or his sons lives to be put in danger. If he really thought that a hit was immediately imminent Luca would've been sent to whack out the Tattaglia's more so than find out what they were up to. The slipping would have been not being able to see the Barzini's behind the whole thing
