Reid wants to filibuster Gillibrand...

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid had an unusual form of praise for New York's junior senator, Kirsten Gillibrand, this morning at the fundraiser Mayor Bloomberg hosted for him at his townhouse - referring to her as "the hottest member" as she sat just a few feet away, according to three sources.

The comment prompted Gillibrand to turn red, according to the sources, and created a bit of stir among the small crowd there.

"It was pretty shocking when he said it," said one source familiar with the remark and the reaction.

A Reid spokesman confirmed it happened, but also noted that the Democratic Majority Leader also praised Gillibrand for her work.

First Bloomberg spoke, then Sen. Chuck Schumer, and then Reid, according to the sources. Reid praised Schumer at length, discussing how he could have run for governor - and won - in 2006, but didn't, and instead accepted the Nevada senator's entreaties to run the DSCC.

Then he turned his attention to Gillibrand, saying something about how "many senators are known for many things," according to a source. He added, "We in the Senate refer to Sen. Gillibrand as the hottest member."

He also then discussed her knowledge of securities law as extremely deep, and suggested she was better on certain policy elements than other people, according to the sources.

Jonathan Mederos set a personal record in Disney's Princess Half Marathon last year, winning first place with a time of 1:16:17.

The reception he got was far from his personal best, though. "When I crossed the finish line, the announcers were silent, and I got downcast looks from the crowd," says Mr. Mederos, a 25-year-old high-school philosophy teacher in Miami.

That's what a guy gets for winning a women's race. As Rick Cordes took last year's Nike Women's Half Marathon, he slunk across the finish line, with a finger pressed to his lips, beseeching silence after having been heckled throughout the race.

"Maybe I shouldn't have been so competitive in a race that I would have been slaughtered in if it were an all-men's field," says Mr. Cordes, a 48-year-old California real-estate broker, in an email. He was one of nearly 700 men among more than 12,700 women in the Nike Half Marathon.

This year, at least a dozen races styled for women are having their debuts across America, from the Nashville Women's Half Marathon on Sept. 25, to Long Island's Divas Half Marathon a week later.

The growth results from an explosion in the number of female runners, who last year accounted for 53% of all U.S. road-race finishers, according to the research center Running USA.

"You take out the testosterone and these events are kinder, cleaner, gentler and sweeter," says Robert Pozo, who runs a group of women's races from a website called Run Like a Diva.

Men can register for these races, as footnotes on the event websites note. Technically allowing guys to run avoids legal spats, pleases charity sponsors whose fund-raisers are often male and engenders a magnanimous spirit. But these races tolerate rather than welcome male participants.....

One of my new kittens is trying to eat and catch my fish. This can't end well.

Must be a bad week for fish. My niece had to flush one of their 5 fish this week. It had some kind of infection. She was not taking a $2 fish to the vet.

Bandit likes to jump up on the counter and try to stick her paw in the fish tank. She's one bad kitten.

She's living up to her name.

I should have named her Rainbow or Sunshine instead.

All this posting about cats. Wait. What's that I hear in the background?

I had no idea the founder of FB, Mark Zuckerberg, was so freekin' rich! We're talking over 23 billion!! Holy crap! He's only 26 (but looks like he's 15). He just donated 100 Million to New Jersey Schools. Some are saying it's connected to a movie being released (soon) showing him in a not so flattering light. I saw an interview with two guys who claim they had the idea first and/or worked with Zuckerberg. I thought they were going to sue, but I am not sure.

Anyway, I see this young kid and think OMG, he's filfty rich!! I wish I had the idea first.

i am more ticked off at the fact that the snuggie creator is filthy rich as well.

Okay. A friend of ours is getting married this Saturday, and she asked me to take her fiance out for a bachelor night. He's in his 20s and has become a friend as well. Well, last night was the night, and it was just he, my military buddy and I. After a nice dinner with mountain lagers, brewed on the premises, we headed for a gentleman's club. Our ladies had no problem with this, and, in fact, the groom's wife-to-be encouraged the trip...with some obvious restrictions. We had planned on having a couple of drinks there, and buying our buddy a couple of lap dances (he had never had one before).

Five hours later, I staggered out of there $1200 poorer. My military buddy spent more than that, and the guest of honor had passed out. I'd certainly go to confessions if I could only remember what the hell I may have done to confess. I'm sure it wasn't too bad. But my friend and I will wait until after the wedding to tell our wives about our expenditures.

WTF....You don't tell your wife what you do. NEVER tell...let them wonder.

Turn in your man card!

Kly... a strip/titty bar is the LAST place you wanna host a bachelor party, trust me. It's cheaper to have *someone* come to you to *entertain* the bachelor!

And FS is right (for once)... What happens at the bachelor party STAYS at the bachelor party!! If you tell your wife, you might be up against her AND a colleague. So shush it. If that's too much to ask, then refuse being a Best Man or even in the wedding party next time.

OMG, has anyone been following or heard about this CT. home invasion in which several people invaded a home, held family hostage, raped the mother and a daughter. The husband was beaten with a baseball bat tied up in the basement forced to listen to all the cries for help. While the wife was taken to the bank by one of the invaders to withdraw money. The house was burned down by the invaders and the wife and two daughters were killed, leaving the husband the sole survivor. Poor guy is in court listening to testimony reliving the event. What a horror!

There are so many stories on this, I just randomly picked this one.

Home Invasion

TIS, it's one of the most horrible things I've ever heard. It's been on the local news every day of the trial. The wife actually told the teller at the bank what was happening, and she notified authorities. There must have been some sort of screw-up, because the guys still had time to rape the wife and set fire to the house when they returned with the money. The police didn't arrive in time to stop it.

They were a beautiful family. The father actually had to leave the courtroom yesterday because the testimony was too painful.

Stories like that are why I am rarely bothered when a homeowner shoots a burglar or would be burglar. That's horrible. You can't bring that family back.

Sometimes, going all Charles Bronson on their ass is the only way to go.

Just the idea of losing your entire family is bad enough but under conditions that are so totally heartless is just unacceptable. This poor guy will have to live with this horror the rest of his life. My heart aches for him.
