Long Ring Finger and Prostate Cancer Risk

A study has shown that men with long ring fingers could be three times more likely to develop prostate cancer. Doctors have found that men whose ring fingers extend much farther than their index finger present more of a risk. The findings were conclusive, and now doctors may begin taking a longer look at the hands of men when assessing prostate cancer risk.
In the study, blood tests confirmed that men with long ring fingers, primarily on their right hand, have higher levels of prostate specific antigen, which is also known as PSA. The chemical is found in high levels in the blood when cancer is present.

Speaking of prostates....there was a study recently (heard on the rah-dio) that people with bigger heads are less likely to suffer from Alzheimers. My head is on the large side. My ring finger is normal...I think.

My doctor seems to have a very long ring finger. I know this because last time he was checking my prostrate I felt a little pressure on my shoulder and turned to see both of his hands on my shoulders. Hey wait a minute.... if.... lol

Just a bit of trivia. I always listen to a radio show every Sunday in which they pay tribute to the Beatles, not with just songs, but interviews with the Beatles, and those around them at the time. It's very interesting to me. smile

Anyway, today they are saluting the movie "Help", which (get this) was released 45 years ago this week. eek Holy crap!!! Seems like maybe a decade ago. I remember so clearly that time period. smile

I hear ya! God, time is flying by. We're grandparents. I was in high school when the Beatles overpowered the American music scene. One anecdote. My sister told me that she recently talked to a friend of hers who was just about the most popular and good-looking girl in school. She told my sister that she had a crush on me back then. God, had I only knew!

Poison ivy treatments are usually limited to self-care methods, and the rash typically goes away on its own within two to four weeks. In the meantime, you can use poison ivy remedies, such as oatmeal baths and cool compresses, as well as over-the-counter anti-itch medications to relieve your signs and symptoms.

If the rash is widespread or results in a large number of blisters, your doctor may prescribe an oral corticosteroid, such as prednisone, for poison ivy treatment. If a bacterial infection has developed at the rash site, your doctor will likely give you a prescription for an oral antibiotic.

In a new ranking by Businessweek.com based on data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), Louisiana claims the top spot as the country's laziest state. To be clear, by "lazy" we do not mean lacking work ethic or engagement. Rather, it is a measure of leisure time spent doing sedentary activities compared with activities that require more physical effort, such as exercising and even working. Mississippi and Arkansas came in second and third, and while states in the south and southeast are represented heavily in the list, such East Coast states as Delaware and New York placed in the top 20.

The green light came down from the bosses. You see a goose, leave it in the street...

Officials plan to reduce the number of Canada geese in New York State by two-thirds, eventually trimming the population to 85,000 from 250,000, according to a report prepared by several city, state and federal agencies.

The reduction is part of a larger plan that also calls for the near halving of the Canada geese population in 17 Atlantic states, to 650,000 from 1.1 million. The New York Times obtained a copy of the report.

In New York City, the report says, the current goose population of 20,000 to 25,000 is “five times the amount that most people would find socially acceptable,” suggesting the number would be reduced to about 4,000.

A high-level official of the United States Department of Agriculture who is familiar with the proposal called it a “one-of-a-kind plan.”

“New York is leading the way,” he said, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the press. Plans for other areas, he said, “do not include all the scientific background.”

The document contained specifics of goose removal in the New York area: “The captured geese are placed alive in commercial turkey crates. The geese would be brought to a secure location and euthanized with methods approved by the American Veterinary Medical Association. Euthanized geese would be buried.”

The plan emerged from five months of meetings that followed the crash-landing of US Airways Flight 1549 in the Hudson River after geese flew into its engines and disabled them in January 2009. The plan was completed in summer 2009 but not made public.

PHOENIX—A judge has blocked the most controversial sections of Arizona's new immigration law from taking effect Thursday, handing a major legal victory to opponents of the crackdown.

The law will still take effect Thursday, but without many of the provisions that angered opponents -- including sections that required officers to check a person's immigration status while enforcing other laws. The judge also put on hold a part of the law that required immigrants to carry their papers at all times, and made it illegal for undocumented workers to solicit employment in public places.

U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton put those controversial sections on hold until the courts resolve the issues.

Opponents say the law will lead to racial profiling and is trumped by federal immigration law.

I found this pretty amusing lol

Bear gets into home, eats and grabs stuffed bear
Quote:
Wed Jul 28, 3:13 pm ET

LACONIA, N.H. – A black bear walked into a New Hampshire house through an open door, ate two pears and a bunch of grapes, took a drink from the family fishbowl and grabbed a stuffed bear on its way out the door. Mary Beth Parkinson said the bear apparently took advantage of the open outside door to get into her kitchen Tuesday in Laconia, about 20 miles north of Concord. She thinks the garage door going up scared the bear enough that it fled the house.

She said she arrived in time to save the fish.

Parkinson said her 6- and 9-year-old boys made sure the doors were locked before they went to bed.

Did anyone else laugh at the "controversy" over that joke Macca told which PBS censored? Dear Lord Leno used to (or still does?) make such jokes every night, nobody got their titty caught in a ringer.

I guess that award is only given to those alive, like the Nobel. If not otherwise, then why didn't he and Lennon (or hell, the Beatles as whole) receive it?

Not knocking McCartney at all, he earned it. Just a question that came to mind when I watched a bit of that concert on YouTube.

Lazy bastard, someday you'll discover Google. smile

The joke:

"It's a fantastic honor (for) the Gershwin family to give me this incredible award and for me to be awarded it by the Library of Congress. And in fact, after the last eight years, it's great to have a president who knows what a library is."

Fox News unsurprisingly had their panties in a knot over this, and I say: Did you guys write "Maybe, I'm Amazed"? No? Well fuck you jack.

I saw the complete show last night (well minus the hilarious dig to W) and was, at first disappointed that McCartney wasn't going to do ALL the entertaining. However, I was very pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed singing along (I was by myself so nobody could tell me to shut up) grin I was even amazed that the Jonas Brothers (even my little grandaughters like them) actually did a decent job singing "Baby You Can Drive My Car." eek Hey Jude was perfect for the crowd to join in. Even Nancy Pelosi was singing. lol Hard to vision hu?

Nice to see Sir Paul and Stevie Wonder do "Ebony & Ivory" again and when Paul sang Michelleto Michelle Obama, was really nice. I guess wishing for "A Day In The Life" might have been a bit much for a WH appearance though. tongue

Was a sad day at work today as we were told that one of our work collegues had passed away suddenly in the night,as far as we know he had no health problems and was only 39. I didn't know him on a personal level but would say hello when passing in the office..

The Mafia Is Not Primarily An Organisation Of Murderers.
First And Foremost,The Mafia Is Made Up Of Thieves.
It Is Driven By Greed And Controlled By Fear.

Between The Law And The Mafia, The Law Is Not The Most To Be Feared

"What if the Mafia were not an organization but a widespread Sicilian attitude of hostility towards the law?"

"No man is an island,
Entire of itself.
Each is a piece of the continent,
A part of the main.
If a clod be washed away by the sea,
Europe is the less.
As well as if a promontory were.
As well as if a manner of thine own
Or of thine friend's were.
Each man's death diminishes me,
For I am involved in mankind.
Therefore, send not to know
For whom the bell tolls,
It tolls for thee."
