Thanks for the New Year wishes. I am looking forward to really doing nothing. My girls and I are going to the Italian Deli in Tustin today and I plan to buy "pig out" food. lol

They don't have Italian Deli's a dime a dozen here in CA (unlike NYC), so when I go I try to make it worth the trip.

Anyway, I don't have any major plans but still that's fine with me. I'm okay to watch a good movie.

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE. I HOPE ALL MY BB FRIENDS HAVE A VERY HEALTHY, HAPPY YEAR.

I'm glad we've hit a new decade. I'm sick of saying 'Two thousand and...'

Now I can start saying 'twenty ten' and so on.

You know, I actually planned on mentioning it here earlier and looked it up to see if it'd been discussed - I saw that you and SB had different "versions" of what it was, and it sounds like what you described is what we make! For us, it's a New Year's tradition. As kids, my two cousins would come over and help me and my brother form the dough (often into goofy designs), while my dad and his brother fried it. Fun times. smile

Gina,

Maybe different parts of Italy/Sicily prepared it different ways. My grandmother's came with her from Sicily I'm sure. I never made it, but I remember seeing her preparing a dough mixture and deep frying it (it'd come out in odd shapes)for not very long. It seemed to cook very fast and I believe she sprinkled it with sugar or powdered sugar. smile

Yep, that's it exactly, TIS!! I made my dad fry a smiley face, and it came out with its two eyes and mouth, along with an extra lump on its forehead. lol

Sfingi -- is that the fried dough? It looks so simple when I see them making it at the summer festivals. But it's a lot of work to get the dough just right. Enjoy!

Have a safe and properous New Year my friends!

A couple of her friends came over. We had a nice time with the beer and the champange. And yes I had my fair share of the champange.

Me too. I never understood why the year 2000 was "two thousand" and not "twenty-hundred." This has bothered me.
