I've known Pete Shellem since 1989. He was the leading investigative reporter for the Harrisburg Patriot-News since I began practicing law. I've posted a link that summarizes his life. Sadly, he committed suicide last week.

http://www.pennlive.com/midstate/index.ssf/2009/10/patriot-news_investigative_rep_1.html

He was a throwback to the news reporters of old, hanging out in the courthouses, paging through files, befriending and having drinks with DAs and defense lawyers. His research and efforts have resulted in the release of several people, unjustly convicted of murder.

I regret that our paths haven't crossed frequently in the past several years. I was at the main offices of the paper this past summer and saw him whiz by. I'm sorry I didn't take the time to say hello to him. I never knew he was battling depression.

How sad, but what a wonderful legacy he left to those he helped.

What a remarkable man. It's sad when people feel so hopeless they need to take their own lives.

I studied Italian for 2 semesters. Not once was a "C" pronounced as a "G", and never was a trailing "I" ignored! And I'm from Jersey! tongue lol

Wow, how sad. A wife of 24 years two grown children. He seemed to have it all. And only 47 years old. Sorry for the lost of your friend Kly. What a shame. frown
