Sub-subject acting:
What scene has an actor / actress give the coldest looking stare in any of the films?

I think it is after Michael looks up from hugging Fredo at their mother's wake. It's like the finest three seconds of acting ever! Rivetting! Telling! Compelling!

It's Michael's look when Kay tells him about the abortion. No question.

What about the look Kay gives Michael right after the attempted hit? I believe she's sitting on the couch with Mary on her lap, and that look speaks volumes.

Edited to apply the "I before E except after C" spelling rule to "believe" before Plaw sees it.

When Senator Geary points the cannon on the desk at Michael and says to him " You and your whole F**king family."

Michael's cold and quiet stare at that moment speaks volumes.

My vote goes for the look Michael gives to Neri indicating that it's time for Fredo to die. Why I say so is because Michael is so deceiving by making Fredo believe that he has been forgiven, only to be using that fake trust to make Fredo relax. Just the fact that he can win Fredo's trust while at the same time giving the order for Fredo to die is what makes it so chilling, IMHO.

I wonder if there are pics of them somewhere in the internet. It'd be cool to collect them in this thread, wouldn't it? smile

I have to second the Pacino stare right after he finds out about the abortion.

My 2nd choice would probably be the Pacino look right before he shoots Sollozo.

I go with SB on Kay's stare after the Tahoe shooting.
Another really vicious one: Michael's stare in GF when he tells Sonny, "It's not personal, Sonny--it's business."

All great looks. Also the look Michael gives Kay when he finds her visiting the children in Tahoe right before he closes the door.

OOH, a great scene, TB, as the camera slowly pans in on Michael as he coldly explains how he will execute both Sollozzo and McCluskey, and then that final comment to Sonny after he makes the mistake of mocking Michael.

At the end the first film, when Michael is recognized as Don Corleone.

Kay looks back horrified

I'm not sure if this is a stare, but the look Kaye gives to Michael after Mary is shot is a real killer.

I also like the two looks Vito gives to Sonny...one is a glance when he tells Johnny that a man who doesn't spend time with his family can't be a real man, and the other is the look he gives Sonny in his office when he says he thinks Sonny is going soft in the head from "all that comedy" he is playing "with that young girl."

Also the look Mike gives Tom when he says "You talk to MY father about My Future."

"Io sono stanco, sono imbigliato, and I wan't everyone here to know, there ain't gonna be no trouble from me..Don Corleone..Cicc' a port!"

As for Michael, the look he gives the Senator when the Senator insults him is deadly cold.

As for other characters, Moe Green gives a pretty good stare when Michael meets with him in Vegas and makes his proposal, both before and after he goes into his tirade.

And Bruno Tataglia's staring at Luca being killed, mixed with another expression, almost an orgasmic ecstasy, for lack of a better term.

Miggie, I don't know what could be the problem, it works for me very well, and if you had no problem with my pix in Al Pacino thread, than you have no problem with geocities. Dunno.

Thanks for posting the pic, JustMe!

Micheal's expression is very cold ... and very handsome at the same time. wink We get the best of both worlds in this thread. smile

... and I see that Michael is waaaaay ahead of all the other characters for giving cold stares. It's all in the eye contact ... and in not being the first one to look away.

Another "coldest stare" is when Michael is siting in the boathouse with his children, during his mother's funeral. Kay comes in and talks to him, but he stares like she isn't there and he doesn't really respond even after she rises her voice. Now that is cold, almost trace like.
