Did you guys see the music awards recently?? The beautiful 19 year old Taylor Swift was totally disrespected by rapper kanye west. He jumped on stage when Swift was talking about her award and thanking her fans, and said that Beyonce should've gotten the award 'cause she had one of the best videos.

I didn't see it live, but saw a clip on the news last night. Poor Taylor Swift looked like she was about to burst into tears, and I don't blame her. Beyonce looked suitably horrified as well.

I know little about either of them, but Kanye West is obviously a punk lowlife. Money just can't buy good manners.

Kanye basically grabbed the microphone out of Taylor's hand and told her he'll let her talk as if he was the king of the world.

I agree with you totally about what Beyonce did after. It goes to show that Beyonce is as pretty on the inside as she is on the outside.

I saw the clip this morning, and I'm sure that West has lost a lot of respect among his peers.

Taylor Swift, by the way, is incredibly talented. She apparently does all the writing and arranging of her music. I listen to a lot of current music because of my daughter. She listens to the gamut from Kanye West to Miley Cyrus, two musicians I never cared for.

I told her a few weeks ago that the best performers that she listens to are Taylor Swift and the Black-Eyed Peas.

The Black-Eyed Peas are big in my house. Wife, daughter and #1 son all have "I Gotta Feeling" as their mobile phone ring tone. Very confusing lol

Boom Boom Pow!!! I love the Black Eyed Peas, even though I really don't want to. Their music is just FUN! And who can forget Fergie in "The Poseidon Adventure"?

I can't stand Miley Cyrus, though. I've heard her sing "The Climb" live, and she was horrible beyond words. She has NO talent whatsoever.

Btw, my daughters and I were joking around that "Boom Boom Pow" would also make a great name for a Chinese dish.

I'm sorry people, I'm not at all a fan of BEP, but I do like Taylor Swift's music. She's a very good young artist.

I only know Taylor Swift is a singer (country?) and I know Kanye is a singer (rapper?), who lost his mother a year or so ago. But, what an asshole he is. rolleyes

I can't think of any excuse for such an outburst but the only reason I conclude is "sour grapes" for him to make such a fool out of himself. Evidently, I hear Taylor got a standing ovation and what a class act Beyonce was too. They both will get great press while Mr. West will be trying to dig himself out for some time.

Oh that's right. That was him? I guess it is a pattern. rolleyes Yet, even that doesn't seem as awful/disrespectful as going on stage and grabbing the mike from someone hands as he did.

It may have had something to do with the bottle of cognac that he was openly swigging from on the red carpet.

Yea it very well may have something to do with it, but how many of us would be that smashed to do something like that? And, even if he was drinking or high or whatever, it's about as rude as you can get and on a personal level, for him, about as embarrassing as it can get. rolleyes

Between Kanye, Serena and the Congressman from South Carolina, the US may just have set a record for rude behavior!! At least Serena seems suitably embarrassed by her outburst.

Good point SB, it does seem to be a run on bad/rude behavior these days doesn't it? I don't follow tennis, but I know of Serena. She threatened to shove a tennis ball down someone's throat???? eek She has a sister too right?

Being the "badass" rapper he is, Mr. West will probably revel in the bad press he gets over this incident.

Actually, he was on Jay Leno's new show (which I didn't particularly like, btw). Jay complimented him on showing up instead of hiding. Kanye talked about how sorry he was, and when Jay asked him what his dead mother would have said about what he did, Kanye looked as if he was about to cry.

To be honest, he just looked like a confused and upset little boy whose schoolyard prank got out of hand.

Of the three, Serena's outburst was most out of character. When she and her sister started winning titles 7 or 8 years ago, I met them at a place in Palm Beach Gardens called the Waterway Cafe. They really seemed to be sweet kids (even though they have an asshole for a father). I'd just chalk up her outburst to her competitive nature and general frustration at he diminishing skills.

Kanye West seems to have pulled this crap before. And a Republican Congressman from South Carolina? Well, did you expect any better?

True. But he'll probably end up with one of those VH1 date shows like Flava Flave and Rock-of-Love!

I might accept that screw-up, except considering West's history...from calling himself the best artist of his generation* to that whole fiasco "Bush hates black people" line at the telethon....forget it Kanye.

Since you brought it up...

While the description was accurate I found it very unbecoming of a U.S. President to allow himself to be heard calling anybody a 'jackass', especially an insignificant MTV celebrity. The entire story was beneath him and he should've kept his mouth shut.

And apparently, Obama agrees since he tried to insist that the statement remain 'off the record' (too late, Barack).

But I hope people realize that when the press asks him about incidents such as this and the MA arrest a few months ago...they are baiting him to see if he will say something newsworthy. Maybe our Pres is still too new at the job to appreciate the value of the words, 'No comment.'

Well, you did bring it up....

Especially since Kanye West is hardly an "insignificant MTV celebrity". Get with the program, Apple. MTV is SO last millennium. It hardly creates celebrities any longer. Also, Kanye is anything but insignificant to the music scene, and certainly not to the millions of young people who watched those awards. It was completely appropriate for the President to refer to him as a jackass, since his behavior was quite boorish.

As for whether it was off the record or not, he was chatting pre-interview and off the air with a reporter. It was completely different than when he answered the questions about the professor while in a press conference, which was definitely ON the air. To attempt to put them in the same context is just plain silly.

You mean like when Dubya called that reporter an asshole a few years ago?
