I recently heard the Kansas City family had ties in Springfield, MO (where the federal prison hospital is).

Can anyone back this up?

It isn't too far of a stretch considering there are probably more made mafia members concentrated in Springfield -- albeit physically sick and behind bars -- due to the federal prison hospital there then in many other places around the country.

In terms of a viable crime family, there isn't much left in Kansas City, much less Springfield.

At last PUBLIC report, there were more than 50 made guys according to other Internet sites...but if Philly is down to less than 20 (as mentioned in another post) Kansas City must be far less (down to crew size)...still, Springfield IS the 3rd largest city in Missouri by population.

Clarification: That's 50 made guys in Kansas City -- not Springfield, of course.

What public report? There have been lists of Kansas City guys floating around the web that have had about 40 names but they didn't differentiate between made members and associates.

Furthermore, you have to look at the fact that Kansas City isn't even listed as a viable family anymore. There hasn't been really any significant indictments since the 1990's. The last news of any kind was a gambling raid a while back. Chicago and Detroit are the only families in the Midwest that are still viable. Chicago may still have about 50 members but Detroit doesn't. So what are the chances of Kansas City having that many?

Not "public report" as in an actual released document, but "public report" as in public information, such as internet sites.

Come to think of it, you are RIGHT, though, about no differentiation being made between made guys and connected guys. So those numbers stand corrected.

And there was a Kansas City boss indicted for extortion in Springfield, I recall, but I don't remember when it was exactly.
