Tom Hagen died by cancer some time in the 70`s or at least that`s what we guess.

Do you think Tom Hagen could make a plot against Michael some time in the 60 or 70`s and got whacked?

I don`t think so, he knows Michael could kill him being capable to kill his own brother Freddo.

But I don`t forget Tom must have felt upset with Michael when he was told to be out in the GF1 but I also think Michael avoided(without realizing I think) putting Tom as acting boss while he was in Cuba in the GF2.

See, we can act as smart as we want, but at the end of the day, we still follow a guy who fucks himself with kebab skewers.

Not a chance! Tom may not have been the most cunning consigliere, but he was totally, completely, reliably loyal to Michael. I also think he no ambitions beyond whatever place in the family he occupied at any given time. And, as a non-Italian in an Italian milieu, he was completely dependent on Vito's and then Michael's patronage. I don't think he could have aspired to plot with anyone else--they wouldn't have trusted him or taken him seriously.

I don't think Tom Hagen would ever consider conspiring to murder Michael Corleone. He and Michael were brothers, and, as Turnbull said, he was completely loyal to his brother.

By the way, Fredo Corleone's forename only has one D in it.

Tom was a brother to Michael and would never betray him. Michael trusted Tom more than Fredo and anyone else in The Godfather Part II. Tom had the chance to betray Michael, but he didn't at all take the chance and instead would be loyal.

Hagen loved the Don too much. He was loyal to the Don for taking him in as a young boy and calling him his son. He would never betray the Corleones. I believe that he sncerely loved all of them. And to betray Michael, would be to betray the memory of Vito. Never happen. Too much love and too much loyalty involved. I don't believe that the thought would ever even cross his mind.

No.

In addition to his loyalty which has already been mentioned, Tom was neither stupid nor easily swayed with false promises unlike another Corleone brother who did prove to be a traitor.

Just that final conversation with Kay at the end of the novel (and no, I haven't gotten to it yet) proves that Tom knew the fate that awaited anyone who dared betray Michael Corleone.
