I believe Sonny's anger stemmed from growing up in a male dominated environment, therefore resulting in his need to suppress his homosexual/bisexual tendencies. In a normal family he might have been more inclined to discuss such a thing and be open with it, but instead his feelings manifest themselves as anger and poor judgement.

Feel free to respectfully argue.

I'm not sure if you're serious or not, but I'll take a stab at this.

I don't think your argument holds water. Fredo and Michael were brought up in the same environment and they didn't exhibit the same tendencies....

I think Sonny was just a very passionate person. He loved, hated and fought hard. He was very emotional. Perhaps seeing his father kill someone at a young age had a bearing on that, but I think his emotional state was "just one of those things".

Sonny? Bi-sexual?

Say it to his face, lol.

Sonny - Well then, business will have to suffer, all right? And listen, do me a favor, Tom. No more advice on how to patch things up, just help me win, please

Well, he did bring his "friend" Tom Hagen home to live with the family. He brought Carlo home, and had him marry his sister to keep him close. Then, he beat him in a rage. A jealous rage perhaps?

I'm just surprised nobody has mentioned this before.

I always thought Sonny's wife, Sandra was very pretty and Lucy Mancini was kind of "manly"...guess this thread explains a lot!

I think it came from the fact that he was the oldest son and the heir to his father's position. Instinctively he knew he was not the man his father was so he compensated for this by having his famous temperament.

"Io sono stanco, sono imbigliato, and I wan't everyone here to know, there ain't gonna be no trouble from me..Don Corleone..Cicc' a port!"

Some people are just naturally hot-tempered. My younger brother and sister are twins. Brother is mild-mannered, sister has a bad temper. Go figure...
Of course, Sonny had to be hot-tempered so Puzo could set him up for his dramatic demise.

But wasn't Vito gay from the beginning until the very end?

Thanks to Sicilian Babe's insight, I would assume that's what Tom Hagen said to Sonny the first time, before eventually moving in with the Corleone family.

For movie dramatic purposes you are probably right, but your theory is so boring tongue.

That's an interesting view Blibbleblabble.
You mean you believe by Sonny being so overly macho and hot headed he may have been covering his own insecurities?
That makes a lot sense to me, a lot of people seem to cover up there issues with over the top amounts of what appears to be confidence!
I don't know wbou the homosexual/bisexual desires but you never know!

Haha I agree with Mark! Sandra Corleone was so much better than Lucy Mancini.
