Does anybody know the name of the song that the Dad dances to with his daughter at the wedding reception?

"Superfreak" by Rick James grin

Actually, the traditional daddy/daughter song, played atmost weddings I've attende, was "Daddy's Little Girl."

As an aside, about 3 years ago I went to a Father/Daughter dance, sponsored by the Girl Scouts. It had a Mexican theme with Mexican clothing, decorations, food and games, but the music was picked by the girls. I was dancing with my daughter, whose head reached my belly, and I was looking down at her. At one point she raised her head straight up and looked at me with a big smile on her face, and I'll always remember that look as if it had just happened as it melted my heart. And it hit me that at one of the greatest moments of my life, I was wearing a sombrero. smile

But the song we were dancing to was a popular one ten years ago. It was about a daughter's wedding day and the father recalling all the special moments of her growing up with her. When the song was over, it was funny that all the dads on the dance floor couldn't look at each other because we all had tears in our eyes.

I'm sure your husband will treasure his dance on the big day. smile

BUTTERFLY KISSES?

Great song! I too remember dancing with my daughter to this song when she was a little girl.

Mig,

The Dad and Daughter dance should (or could) be a special song between the two of them. My D-D dance was from the Muppett Movie, "The Rainbow Connection". My daughter and I were real muppett fans when she was small and we played the album all the time and did all the voices. It was a very special moment and everyone at the wedding loved it.

My brother-in-law danced with his daughter to "Brown-Eyed Girl". So, Superfreak is not out of the question.

It depends on what part of the country you're from.

Most of the country would use "Daddy's Little Girl" (like klyd suggested) but the hill folk use, "I May Be Dancing With My Daughter Now But I Still Have My Shotgun Aimed at Her Boyfriend".

My first wife danced to "Wind Beneath My Wings", with her father.

Mig-

It's too late because you neglected your duties as a parent. You should have told your daughter to be a nun, as I have been drilling into my 5 year old on a daily basis. wink tongue

Seriously, the song will not matter as much as your husband and daughter will remember the actual dance itself. It's one of the great gifts a father could ever receive.

You are too funny DC. lol And just think you've only known the Col. for a few hours. And I'm impressed that you remembered Becky's fiance name.

That's the song my wife and her dad used. There's a few different versions out there...

Long as I remember The rain been coming down.
Clouds of Mystery pouring Confusion on the ground.
Good men through the ages, Trying to find the sun;
And I wonder, Still I wonder, Who'll stop the rain.

I really like "I Loved Her First" and Daddy's Little Girl" I had the Col. listen to them last night and I'm already crying and they haven't even danced yet. whistle

I'll have to bring several boxes of tissues to the reception.

I think "The Way You Look Tonight" is perfect for a daddy/daughter wedding song...A simple and honest tune, yet elegant enough for Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers:

"Turn Around" from the old Kodak commercial, "Daddy's Little Girl", "Sunrise, Sunset", "When I See You Smile" or "What A Wonderful World".

Aside from "Superfreak", as Klyd suggested, I've heard that "Baby Got Back" is also quite popular.

I was invited to a wedding several years ago (it was the Saturday before the 9/11 attacks) where the bridegroom and his mother, who was wearing a tight and revealing dress, did an R rated bump and grind number for their mother/son dance to a Mary J. Blije song. It was appalling. His hands were all over her - I mean ALL over her, and she probably still has marks on her forehead from his belt buckle.

The bride, who worked for my wife, was mortified. But her husband's family and friends cheered them on. I remember getting drunk at the reception and I kept telling my wife we couldn't leave til I danced with Tony's mom. But when I saw her making her way to the table, I ran for dear life.
