The 1983 version was a remake of the 1932 version. The 1932 version was loosely based on the career of Al Capone, so is that who you are talking about? There was also someone named Pablo Escobar who was similar to Tony Montana (rose in the drug world). But Scarface (1983) was not based on a true story. Sure, there may have been people like Tony (like Pablo), but it is not based on them.
