I've been seeing dribs & drabs about his being terminally ill for a few weeks now. Though I hoped it was a rumor, sadly it's apparently true.
Unlike earlier generation legends such as Spencer Tracy, Bogart or Clark Gable who died when I was just a kid or before I was even born...Paul Newman is to me a contemporary. He was still in his prime when I was old enough to understand what a movie star was.
It'll be a sad day, indeed...my heart goes out to Newman and his WHOLE family.

Aside from being one of the all time great actors, he was a decent race car driver and more important a great philanthropist. He has made millions for charity with his food products (all of which are damn good quality imho), and by giving hundreds of thousands of dollars a year to the Metropolitan Opera and various theatre companies in New York. A true Rennaisance man.
