We just hit the 5000 Member mark!

Too bad the last 3 who pushed it over the edge are the same person -- someone who was banned a while back, and banned again -- but the milestone was reached!

Too bad only like 5 actually post, though. whistle

Last edited by J Geoff; 08/05/08 12:54 PM. Reason: Actually 3, not 2 :/

I studied Italian for 2 semesters. Not once was a "C" pronounced as a "G", and never was a trailing "I" ignored! And I'm from Jersey! tongue lol

A milestone is a milestone though eh Geoff?

Even if we do need the help of various miscreants to get the numbers up? grin

It's kind of like that Atlanta Falcon running back about 30 years ago, who got 1,000 yards rushing in the 4th quarter of the final game. They stopped the game, gave him the ball and he received a standing ovation. On the next play he was tackled for a 5 yard loss and finished the season with 997 yards. tongue

Anyway, congratulations. It's still pretty impressive.

Geoff, with 5k members you could qualify as a "power broker" with a "vocal and influential constituency." Just think: you could appear on CNN offering punditry, sophistry and perhaps even thuggery; you'd be invited on podiums with McCain and Obama; be mentioned as a VP candidate, or for the new Cabinet position of Secretary of the Web; be on the covers of Newsweek and Time; and all of us here could one day claim that "we made him what he is!" tongue

Re: Vote of confidence to our Chief Executive and proposals for long term membership shares.

As a long term member and advocate of the Gangster BB, I would like to draw your attention to the incredible growth the board has made over the last 7 years. Not only have we reached our 7th Birthday but we have also accumulated over 5000 members to the BB.

I am proud to see the Gangster BB Corporation Group advance, not only in terms of organic growth, but also that we have managed to weather crisis such as the latest scandal involving our own Chief Executive JG and the compromising situation of being alone, naked, with a rhesus monkey. I am sure I speak for most when I say I understand how innocent it was, contrary to press reports, and that yes it was a complete accident and we all hope the monkey shall be walking fine soon. JG has expressed his shock just as much as anyone, that the monkey just fell onto him and he would like to clear his name as soon as possible.

We are well positioned to weather the current publicity we are gaining and with the BB's progress we are sure to build upon this. It is with this progress that I would like to recommend to the Board that such long standing members such as myself are offered a 4% shareholding with Gangster BB Corporation Group.

Member Advocate, Gangster BB Corporation Group

P.S. I'm in the bing wink

He - (Simón Bolívar) - was shaken by the overwhelming revelation that the headlong race between his misfortunes and his dreams was at that moment reaching the finishing line. The rest was darkness. "Damn it," He sighed. "How will I ever get out of this labyrinth!"

So what’s the labyrinth?

That’s the mystery isn’t it? Is the labyrinth living or dying? Which is he trying to escape - the world, or, the end of it?

5,000 members, wow!! eek Granted not all the members post, (although I think it's way more than 15 that post regularly), but 5,000's gotta be some kind of record no? No matter, I'm happy to have found this place and have enjoyed sharing with all of you.

Congratulations on a job well done Geoff.

Geoff,

I'm sure when you first watched the GF you never imagined it'd become the basis for a site that you would start, on a new tecnology forum known as the internet.

Just for fun: smile

1. Approximately, how many of the 5,000 members would you guess you've banned throughout the years. I'm sure the number is very small.

2. What was the worse thing that a member has done to get banned. (although, it might give some people ideas) tongue

3.On an average, how many members actually report offensive posts to you, say....per year (I'm guessing not many)

4. Any strange requests from members past or present?

5. The funniest/weirdess board name any member past or present has chosen????

6. Did you really ever think the BB would ever get this big? You know, bigger than U.S. Seel?????? wink

I may need others' input here as my memory isn't the best... blush

1. Approximately, how many of the 5,000 members would you guess you've banned throughout the years. I'm sure the number is very small.

The number is bigger than I thought (135), BUT, many of those aren't "banned" as much as just "turned off", or duplicate sign-ups, etc. Very few have actually been banned for disciplinary reasons... tho I have a feeling that might change soon. whistle

2. What was the worse thing that a member has done to get banned. (although, it might give some people ideas) tongue

Exactly! But basically for being obnoxious and not listening. (hint!)

3.On an average, how many members actually report offensive posts to you, say....per year (I'm guessing not many)

What's with all the math you're making me do? I'm not about to count all my emails, but you're right, it's not really that many. Often it's just mod-to-mod saying "check this out." I REALLY wish people would use the feature more often when they see objectionable content so we can take care of it in a more timely manner.

4. Any strange requests from members past or present?

Strange members bring strange requests. grin I've had newbies ask to become moderators a couple days in. That's pretty strange! lol

5. The funniest/weirdess board name any member past or present has chosen????

I remember someone who called himself "Intelligence", but misspelled it. lol

6. Did you really ever think the BB would ever get this big? You know, bigger than U.S. Seel?????? wink

I actually thought it'd be bigger than this by now. And certainly more active than it has been lately. Part of it could be Summertime activities, but also I've been dismayed by the slowing down of posts from some long-time members for some obvious, unfortunate reasons (that I plan to address now as the issues arise so we don't lose any more!)

So, will this be published in the LA Times? lol
